Missing part?

I've just collected my car after having the cylinder head replaced because of the tapping noise issue (under bmw warranty thank god), presumably it's the newly designed one I've read about a couple of times.

Anyway I lifted the bonnet to listen to the improved noise and noticed this blank bracket which I'm sure had something attached before?

Any ideas?

im not 100% but pretty sure ive seen a few people mention this and its not something needed (something to with a part needed abroad in a different climate.... i think anyway?)

Iirc it's some sort of compressor on m cars or American cars can't remember which

Secondary air pump for emissions control - Alpinas have them too

You can see it here - round object next to the washer reservoir
