Missing Front Towing Hook Cover

Rach noticed it was missing yesterday. Anyone know if there is a history of them vibrating out on the road or has it been tampered with. The cars only ever parked in a secure car park at work or next to the garage at home wich is out of site of the road.

My experience with BMWs is that they are tricky to remove, and have to be levered out. Could be different with the E89 though

I'm sure someone posted about the front one having a little indent in it that he thought was a fault, but actually turned out to be where you press it to remove (I think?). Might've been Tim or Andrew.

Not sure how easy they are to remove.

They can only be removed with force applied to that dimple in the cover. They're not loose. So either its been pinched, or a stone has hit it spot on to knock it out.

I lost mine a while ago. Like you I wasn't sure if it had just popped out or been stolen. I bought two replacements (just as cheap to paint two as one) and I've now got a spare in case another one goes AWOL. However, I notice that one of the replacements is a better fit than the other so who knows the original one may have fallen out after all.

How much did they cost Stafainn. I'd naiveley assumed I'd be able to get a ready painted one from BMW.

I thought the covers had a retaining wire to stop them being lost? If not then might be worth attaching it to a piece of wire of string to inside of the bumper.

It's quite a while ago that I bought them I think that they were about £10 or £15 each and BMW wanted about £40 to paint them. I bought two and got my local guy to paint them both including my roll bar covers for £20. There is no tether on their rear to stop losing them.

I just lost mine as well the other day. Not even 1000 miles on the car and I'm already missing a front tow hook cover.

I've never had this issue on my former cars (E90, E92). I'm starting to think this is an issue with the E89s.

I doubt they fall out of the bumper that easily. Mine aren't loose and are firm.

Being nicked more like,
