Mirror Mirror on the ooooooooops

Had just filled the Z with fuel, got in and closed the door gently in the normal way when crash the mirror had dropped off from the holder backing plate onto the floor, smashing I thought < get it

Great so went to BMW to enquire about getting a new one, the reply was we can order one at a cost of £117, :o :headbang:

Hang on I said I’ll just ring Euro's and GSF, nope they don't do just the glass mirror part for a Zed.

Hopefully I can collect my ordered item from the main stealers this afternoon :thumbsup:

The gal said if it was an X5 it would cost over £400 for just the glass bit as they have some gel in them or something. :D

The heated glass followed by the cold weather weakens the glue over time.

Motto is keeping the window open, and jump in like ya driving the General Lee, this could prolong the life expectancy :driving: :rofl:

Would you disconnect the wiring????? who needs heated mirrors anyway!

Had the same happen to me - bought an aftermarket one off of eBay and works perfectly including the heater element. (£10 delivered!). Whilst I was waiting I went to Halfords and bought a generic oval mirror that would fit the space.

Yup, lots of people have had the same thing happen and got the £10 ebay item, works just fine. £117 is just preposterous and really gives the brand a bad name IMO.

If you haven't paid for it then just don't, if you have then say you've changed your mind, am not quite sure how they can force you to pay for it if you haven't even received it.

The gel is the same in the Z4 as it is the chromatic part (if you have got the option).

you paid before picking up :(

I had ordered one, but never picked it up because I found the ebay ones.

couldn't tell the difference on mine.
 
Is that because you never looked in it? :poke:

Dealers do charge in advance if it is an item that can not be returned or is rare. As I have a good relationship with the parts dept, it does not apply to me (anymore) but in the beginning I did have to pay for parts in advance on order. I guess it was a bit unusual to ask for SatNav retrofit cable harness though ....

No i don't think mine are Chromatic, the chassis number would tell the main dealer if they were woudn't it?

Yeah had to pay in full to order the part i'm affraid!
 
Quick question, in this cold weather is it best to warm the parts with a hairdryer so the plastic clips doesn't crack, what's the best way to unclip the backing plate?????

Glad you seem to have it sorted now. Hate the thought of anyone having to pay that when there are cheaper options available which are just as good.

I don't remember having to unclip anything - sure it just stuck on.

Crazy innit Andy!

There is a ring on the back plate, this needs twisting anticlockwise with a small round screwdriver from the lug at the top by half an inch so it can be removed, pop the wires off and replace in reverse order.

All sorted chaps and chapesses :thumbsup:
