Mileage between services?

What mileage are you guys getting between services? Mine is reporting 13792mls (9375 to service after 4417 total miles) and is reducing steadily as the car is driven. I guess it will end up about 12000mls or so; is that the norm? On my previous 2004 Z4 2.5 I got 16536 and 15760 intervals both increasing as the car was driven. Both cars get their fair share of harsh and kind driving on pretty much the same roads. Even driving really gently on the motorway reduces the total distance (mls to service + total miles)?

With 6500+ kms to next service I took a long trip around Europe.
5000-5500 kms later I got home with the computer stating just 60 kms to next service. And we did a fair amount of highway driving and not so much trashing (wife's not such a big fan of that as me  ).
Not really sure why it decreased so much.

I actually passed it by 300 kms after I got home before getting the service done ( no big deal as I had done an in between interval oil change just before the trip and the service was an oil service), so in the end I think I did it close to 6000 km after the trip. The number where it 'zeroed' would close to 5700 I guess.

I have done 11494 and have about 800 miles left until i need a service! Not too bad I guess, although its sooner than any of my other BMW's, then again, this is an 'M'

The service interval calculator is based on how much fuel you burn through. On the E46 3 series it was about 660 gallons of gas (at roughly 22.5 mpg average that comes out to be almost 15000 miles). I don't know what the figure is based on, but from the current consumption rate it appears my interval is based on the same 660 gallons of gas (at around 18.7 mpg average I get around 12,800 miles between servcies. I'm at 10,000 miles right now and when I fire up the car it shows ~2,000 miles to go).

The more you drive the car, the harder you drive it, the higher your fuel consumption figure (lower the MPG), the faster the interval cycles through. Although you should get at least 1 oil change per year as per BMW instructions. I'm due for my 1 year this weekend.

How do you know that?

If I assume 12500 miles for my Z4MR and 660gals then I calculate 19mpg but I get close to 25mpg. So maybe its 500gals or so for the Z4MR?

I have heard the same - based on 500 gallons of fuel or there abouts...so drive harder and it drops quicker

Aside from an aggressive country drive I took early this year, my Zed takes on 90% Highway mileage. But my computer tells me I'll be due at ~ 13000 miles, 2k short of usual. I highly doubt I burned away 2000miles to interval from my 1 day of spirited driving?

I do agree that the harder you drive it, the shorter your intervals (and it's explained in may outside sources).

It's specified in the TIS. Look up "service interval" under technical documentation if you have access to it.

My 19 miles per gallon isn't imperial miles, it's the U.S. spec miles. I assume you're using Imperial gallon size to get 25mpg.

OK 1 imperial gallon = 1.2 U.S. gallons = 4.5 liters so I should get 20% more MPG. Maybe its set at 2250 litres using my data or if you use 660 US Gallons (your E46 value) its 2500 litres - a suspiciously round number - so I guess thats it!

I've looked at the service interval data for my 2.5 Z4 too:-

1st service (oil) 16536 miles = 558 imperial galls at 29.6 mpg

2nd service (insp 1) 15760 miles = 534 imperial galls at 29.5 mpg

Average service interval in gallons was 546 which converts to 2481 litres so again 2500 litres near as damn it.

So if my Z4M is currently running at 25mpg I could expect up to 13750 ranging down to 11000 at 20mpg

Ok, I have just booked mine in for the service, £160 plus vat. I didnt think that was too bad? My 330 was £200 for the first service! Though maybe the stealer ripped me off on that one!

slightly off topic here guys but ive been looking at second hand m3's and figuring its the same engin as the z4m's i saw somewhere that the inspection 11 service was £2000,is this figue correct or was the guy way out as this is putting me off slightly!!

Between £650 and £900 was what I was quoted before I sold the M3, needless to say I didn't get it done!

ah i doubt the guy had more work done to the car........ i could live with up to £900 for a inspection11 so maybe the zed is going to get traded for an m3 afterall.... or am i making a bad decision??
