Hi All,

Quick question to find out if anyone has had problems with mice chewing at the insulation on wiring?

Mine was spotted by the garage during a service. They’ve had a go at the wires to the injectors in the engine bay. Fortunately limited damage as far as I can tell and nothing shorting out so some careful work with insulation tape has solved the issue.

I have heard horror stories, mainly from motorhomes in storage where mice have had a real go at the loom and insurance companies consider them a write off!

I keep my car in the garage. This house is in a rural location so there will always be mice about, particularly in the Autumn when they come in looking for shelter. I use mouse traps and sonic repellers but this obviously wasn’t enough!

Not sure what more I can do….

Mine had the same problem. Mine was found when I had a service done and spark plug change. The damage must have been from when the previous owner had the car, chewed insulation all around the coil packs and injectors and lots of chewed wires, nothing chewed through but lots of bare wires. I had the top wiring loom replaced but it's quite a large section of loom and cost me £550 :(
 
Not sure what you can do to protect from this other than make sure the garage is sealed properly so they can’t get in and mouse traps and poison.
 
It’s very frustrating and a bit worrying. I was also quoted around £550 for a replacement partial loom for the engine but thought I’d wait - not much point in replacing if the new one just gets eaten again.

You would think car manufacturers could have come up with wiring insulation that isn’t palatable to rodents or is that wishful thinking…

It's funny because they did actually... Not sure when it starting being a thing though so an E89 might not have it but it defnitely is a thing nowadays :thumbsup:
