Quick couple questions:

Is it possible to swap the trim from an M steering wheel to a non-M wheel that is being rewrapped (Royal Steering wheels)? I noticed the standard cut out is much lower on the bottom spoke than the M trim.

Is it possible to remove the buttons from the button modules to paint them? Having had a look and a quick try, it didn't seem obvious how. If not, just mask up the button holes?

Anyone know of a slightly rubberised satin black paint that can be used to return them to OEM look? (Not plastic-dip = I want them to stay perfect, and not go shiny like matt black rattle can paint / plastic-dip)

But is that going to look crap in 3 weeks? (shiny instead of satin in high wear areas)

So nobody has swapped M trim for standard trim? Seems I'll be the first then.
 
So after speaking with royal wheels, no, it's not easily possible to use M lower spoke trim with a non-M wheel as the under moulding is different, so the leather fitting is different.
 
Any chance of a pic of your steering wheel after Royal Wheels have done their thing? Or were you only going to use them if they could do the swap of trims?
 
you can separate the buttons if you want them painted.... srhutch did his.

Non m trim will fit an M wheel... others have done it.. not sure if it will work the other way around.

You will have to suck it and see so to speak regarding that paint. I'm not aware of anubody trying it. Worst case is you rub it down and start again. I do believe any textured paint will degrade though due to the constant contact and movement between your hands and the wheel.

I'm still looking at a few options, but the Matt satin black I used is holding up fairly well.

Sure, its currently a standard MFSW with silver trim. I have a spare wheel, spare standard and M trim, so going to have the wheel done and work on trim separately. I may try to merge the two together, to incorporate the M inlay on the lower spoke. Depends if I get bored and just paint the standard trim :oops:

I'm not going for the standard perforated pattern sides / smooth top either.
