:headbang: So my retrofit cable came from bmw today.

Following the guide on shipkillers site, I connected H1 & H2 into the green socket underneath the steering wheel... Then the other two end were fed up behind the Instrument dials and I used the Scotchlok's (Ive never used these before) to hook those to wires into the correct wires from behind the Light Control panel thingy.

Turned my car on and the Sat-Nav screen is blank and the stereo refuses to turn on....

Suggestions?

Sounds like oy mixe dup the connectiosn

Check and then check again that you got the right pins in the column connector and in the LCM connector (they are easy to mix up) and that you did not criss cross them.

You should also really use the BMW connectors or solder them for proper connection.

Aside that - can't help.

Sorry, it was the BMW connectors I just thought they were called Scotchlok.

I was wondering if I had them mixed up... I will try changing the ones in the Steering Column first to see if I got them mixed up that way around...

If it turns out I have got the wrong wires in the LCM end, The BMW connector wont have ruined the wire will it?

Don't just go randomly switching them over. Go back to your drawing and wire colour codes and check. pita but you don't know what you'll end up connecting to what.

The new pins won't come out of the green block as iirc they have a barb that you have to release.

no the connectors merely cut the insulation slightly and can be removed. Just seal the cut if you do remove them

:D Sorted!

Thanks for your help mate.

It was indeed the 2 new pins in the green block. Yeah I took the wheel off again to release the barb.

All working perfectly and I no longer have to stretch that extra 12 inches to adjust my volume

Cheers for the wheel Herminator, working like a dream

Finally  good to hear you got it all working.

Is the spoke colour the same as your old wheel? or slightly darker?

Just been to check and it looks pretty much identical.

To be honest when I first saw it I thought it was a little darker.

Glad it worked - yet another one proving that no programming needed for this particular upgrade.

Satisfying to fit it and get it working too and not had to pay BMW a penny :D

Yeah definately...Feeling pretty pround of my self recently.

I can't tell you how pathetically crap I used to be at stuff to do with cars. I paid £40 about 8 months to have a stereo taken out of my car and replaced with the orginal (Renault). I wouldn't dream of doing that now! Infact before my Z4 I'd never checked a dipstick. :o

Definately no programming needed, as long as you don't get the wires mixed up :?
I've got to admit...my face was a picture when the sat-nav popped up with a blank screen and the stereo wouldn't turn on....
