MFSW buttons

After speaking to CJ10Jeeper at the Aebous meet this weekend, I've decided the next thing to do is get the MFSW buttons added.
I've been hunting around a bit this morning for the part numbers that I'd require, but all I can find is "65710304943", which appears to be the retrofit kit, for $320!
Is it not possible to just buy the fronts and back of the left and right spokes, without the rest of the gubbins that I don't think I actually need?

Can someone who's done this help - pretty please :)

I've just ordered this very kit. £145 + VAT and five to seven days delivery, as it comes from Germany.

There are two part numbers depending upon the finish of the steering wheel spokes (Graphite or Chromeline).

SK93 - PM me an email address and I'll drop you off the MFSW retrofit pdf instructions

I may have missled you on Sunday and you may (depending on year) need a single twin wire harness connection from the back of the mount to the LCM.

As for the parts. As int he local BMW dealers and they can look up each individual item on a sub parts listing. No need to buy full kits

that's exactly what I want to avoid... £145+vat for a few buttons seems excessive :/

You may want to think about adding a M Z4 wheel (32307906780) with the multifunction controls. I bought this for less than $400 brand new, and it's a great upgrade over the original wheel. It also came with the black spokes, which I think look better anyways.

That's ok.. as long as I don't need to swap out the entire wheel, mount, dashboard, footwell carpet, rear offside wheel and the scissors from the first aid kit ;)

PM'd my address - cheers!

my current wheel is in very good nick, and I've just spoken to Sytner, who quoted that wheel at £220.21, which is about four times more than I want to pay :)

but it does look nice!

It is excessive for a few bits of plastic and wire, but that's BMW for you. The kit includes the extra wiring harness for cars built prior to 09/03. This harness sells for £4.94 + VAT on its own (p/n 61.12.0.394.848 - cable set), if you're able to source a steering wheel ,with the buttons on, elsewhere.

I initially enquired about the thicker M steering wheel fitted to the 06 on Sport Z4's. I was advised that it was only suitable for the facelift Z4s, but I suspect this was based on the parts computer showing 10/05 on for this item. I didn't enquire about the price, having been told it's not compatible with a 2003 car, and went ahead and ordered the retro-fit kit.

I can pretty much guarantee, now that I've ordered the kit, A MFSW will appear on Ebay with a Buy It Now of £50.

I run a post 2006 standard MFSW with paddles on my 2003 and make it round most corners.

I also swapped in a brand new ///M (fatter) wheel for Herminator some months back, so I'm 100% sure all ages are compatible with all models. There could be issues with earlier steering wheel mounts when it comes to the extra pins for paddles, but that's an aside.

Thanks for the info CJ.

I'm waiting to hear from the dealer now, to see if they'll let me cancel my initial order of the MFSW retro-fit kit. If so, I'll order 32307906780, which is what I wanted to do in the first place!

M wheel will definitely fit pre-facelift cars. Mine is a 2005, and it fit with no issues. This is, without a doubt, my favorite mod. It's hard to describe, but it feels so much sportier with the bigger grip, and it looks great too.

having trouble getting the actual part numbers for the individual bits from the dealer.
Apparently, his system doesn't allow him to break it down far enough for the part numbers within the kit.

I don't suppose there's a "better" breakdown of the parts than that shown on REALOEM?
Is the TIS or ETK likely to have this?

or.. by sheer chance, are they stamped on the back of the actual bits? lol

I don't think any of those web or cd solutions have the item part numbers.

My dealer has a sub parts system he searches for these items right down to an individual pin inside of a kit. I think they need to go search that.

This could help bring the cost down, depending on what the final price is, if you want to go the whole hog, after fitting mine it is a most definately a mod worth doing:D

I'm tempted, but I don't want to have a Z4M without the actual important bit ;)

I'll keep an eye on it tho, thanks

ok - finally got a little further with this.
Got a breakdown of all the part numbers:

Part number - Name
01290017969 - Stick-on label
32346785703 - Set of spoke covers
61120394848 - Retrofit cable set
61316933898 - Connecting line for switch gear
61316934173 - Connecting line for steering wheel
61319174035 - MFL switch, left
61319174036 - MFL switch, right
01290304944 - Installation instructions

Next step was some prices:

Part number - Name - Price inc. VAT
61316933898 - Connecting line for switch gear - £28.74
61319174035 - MFL switch, left - £57.01
61319174036 - MFL switch, right - £78.00

Those parts alone come to £163.75p

The retrofit kit that contains all of these (P/N: 65710304943) is only £145 inc. VAT.

Looks like the retrokit is the cheaper option - bar buying a 2nd hand wheel of fleabay.

I fitted the MFSW control retro-fit kit today. It cost £134 and took me about 2.5 Hrs to fit!

If in a similar position, in future, I would spend another £75 and buy the M steering wheel. It would save a lot of hassle and it's a better looking item anyway.

Anyway it's done now. Next on the hit list is an iPod integration kit. :)

Well done! I was watching that, but the dealer wouldn't allow me to cancel my retro-fit kit once ordered.....so... I stopped watching it. :(
