Firstly, please forgive my innocence of forums and mechanics!
I recently bought a 12 plate e89 20i from an approved dealer. I LOVE the car but the dealer experience was not great. Long story but unimportant. What’s bothering me, and what I’d like to ask the forum, is whether I should expect a metallic ticking from “below” at low revs? It happens more in “comfort” than “sport”, presumably because the revs are lower. Sounds like there’s a peeled open coke can rattling around under the chassis. No performance issues and nothing else noticeably wrong - just a nasty rattle. I know the 20i may not be the meatiest setup but I’m sure it shouldn’t sound so much like a knackered London taxi!
It’s been back to the dealer for the last 2 days to sort the problem. They replaced the vacuum pump, gave it a wash, handed it back, and guess what... I drove it home with the same metallic ticking. I’ll get back to them, obviously, but my confidence in the dealership is seriously dented and i’d hugely appreciate some real world advice.
Anyone had similar?
