I’m fairly sure that’s not a road, there are far too few potholes.

Yeah it is. The new solution to the state of UK roads is to glue lumps of chequerplate over the potholes.

You’re joking but “road plates” are a common sight in Sydney, often in place for a year or more during big construction projects:
