Well here it is, Another memorial day in the states. But sadly most young folk just know that it's a holiday from work. And have no idea what it is really all about. It's about the men and women who gave their lives for their country. And even though it's technically an american holiday. I always think of our WWII allies to.

Check out this great video of the greatest american fighter plane of WWII. http://www.asb.tv/videos/view.php?v=1bf99434&br=500

Cheers

I think our society in the UK is divided between people who knew Churchill as a great leader during time of war, and people who think Churchill is the car insurance dog that says "Oh Yuss". I don;t mean that as a criticism. Time does move on, and as us older folk die out.......WW2/WW1 will be seen as dry text in history books, bereft of colour and context from those alive today who remember those times. The Boer war meant nothing to me, nor did the Crimean war. I think what makes this a particular shame is that WW2 had a far greater post war impact than any other, especially in the creation of new states (which have had mixed blessings and resonate even today)

I always get a lump in my throat when I visit places like Ypres, the huge cemeteries, Normandy, Pegasus Bridge, etc. As a kid we were brought up on tales of daring do in the air, on sea and land in black and white and full technicolour, we listened to our parents and grandparents about the bombs, the doodlebugs. My own family suffered at the hands of the nazi's and uncles/cousins perished at Auschwitz on 24th September 1942.

Tick tock, tick tock.....tempus fugit.
