Been going over the paintwork with Meguiars 105 compound and having good success with the swirly cobwebs but I've run out now and cant find the medium sized bottles anywhere, ordered poorboys compounds 3,1 and liquid carnuba from net but found using the 3 was like grinding paste and undid all my good work on the tailgate. Was wondering what to use, have seen ultimate compound but was not knowing how this compared to 105 in strength or abrasion.

Maguiars ultimate compound?

It's particles disintegrate as use :)

For clarification purposes only

SMAT - Super Micro Abrasive Technology

DAT - Diminishing Abrasive Technology

Its pretty much like it sounds, one stays micro, and one breaks down or diminishes.

The SMAT is newer, and seems to work a bit better as far as removing defects and leaving a nice finish in most instances.

I've got a big bottle of 105 I've never really got on with - it is it worth sticking with? I found it really hard to work.

Yes,its good stuff,I have been doing mine by hand as I cant get the knack of the d/a polisher, just started practising on my Honda, perhaps I have been letting the foam pads run too dry.

Maybe I'll try by hand as well - think I've run the lads quite dry on the DA previously. 205
Is good stuff though!

Well the car is almost finished,I used ultimate compound for some of the first pass and didn't think it did the job as good as the 105,then 2nd stage was with the 205 and then poorboys blue liquid,I may add a topcoat of paste wax too. Nearly all the swirls are gone and the car is gleaming but the deeper scratches are still visible. I've never spent this much time cleaning a car up before and all it cost was £50 and an achy back :)

Good boy
Deeper ones would only come out by sanding it by hand with wet/n dry buddy

Compound is for finishing off with more than initial
