So I changed my oil. I used royal purple 5w 30 full synthetic (if that even makes a difference). Now, whenever I try and drop the throttle and push it past 4k rpm on the highway, I feel a bit of hesitation then a sudden pick up.

I don't get it. Does the oil suck? Or is something else wrong now?

Welcome to the dark side.

I have been using RP in the Zed for the last year or so. Complete: Engine, Tranny, Diff..

I don't think it's the oil. I am not sure how oil would cause that type of issue at just one rpm range. If it was all over the rpm band, then maybe...

I've experienced the same hesitation in the past but it was not related to an oil change. The dealer changed the coil packs and re-flashed the computer and all was well. Maybe your problem is not related to the oil but a coincidence.

i agree, can't see how oil would effect that ... i mean if the oil "sucked" wouldn't it "suck" throughout the rpm range? although RP is really advanced oil, i doubt it is advanced enough to change it's characteristics at specific rpms

furthermore, i have heard nothing but good things about RP except the high price tag ... good luck with getting your car back to normal!!

Thanks for the replies folks!! She's going in or repairs on Monday. Hopefully everything will be ok.

my service engine soon light came on shortly after the oil change. How whack!

You may have over filled it - check first before heading for service.

My first thought was that they overfilled it, so I went back there and asked them to read the code and it said that the "system was too lean." it cleared them of the problem so I took the zed to my mechanic and asked him. He found the problem and it has to do with a valve that controls the amount of fuel that enters the car. I'll take a picture as soon as I get it back today to show the rest of the world.

All in all, it's gonna take like 600 dollars to repair it and it was due to regula wear and tear. The oil had nothing to do with it. Just a coincidence.

I retract my opinion about the royal purple. It's good stuff.

this is what ended up being replaced. it's that black box to the right of the dip stick. the MAF sensor was also replaced. 1000 dollars. 57k miles.

Do you use an aftermarket filter like the K&N that uses oil to filter? If so you probably been to generous with the oil.

Before replacing the MAF did you try to clean it? You'll find a spray at the auto parts store designed just for that. If you clean it just be careful not to damage it.

Give it a try... It's very unlikely that a MAF fails by itself so it either got too dirty beyond its self cleaning ability or it took a hit.

I dont use an aftermarket air filter. Everything is oem. And the maf was replaced only because that black box was needing to be replaced.
Good info!

Is the box you talk about #7 here? If so its the DISA (dual resonance something somethingelse... It basically split the intake in 2 under certain circumstances to optimize the volumetric efficiency) and it malfunctioning is something that does happen and the symptoms fit with the diagnosis.

The MAF is #1 here and it's a separate thing from the DISA. It's not that to replace the latter you need to replace the former as well. Are you saying that both were damaged?

Originally, only the DISA was supposed to be replaced, but then the MAF ended up being replaced only because the ecu supposedly needed a new maf due to the disa replacement.

Wait... Who told you that? That is a lie: there not one single reason why you gotta replace the MAF JUST BECAUSE you replaced the DISA... There was either something wrong with it, or they sold you something you didn't need.

Its good to know!! The mechanic didn't bother to tell me until I picked up the car. The maf was replaced because it was "outputting wrong information" after the disa replacement. I'm not quite sure to be honest but he didn't really go into too much detail.
