Having recently bought a baby Z4 2.0i 2006 I have been looking on this forum quite a lot, every day really to tell you the truth! :D
I have a good laugh reading all the discussions.
But what do you guys or gals think about the Mark II?
I think it's too soft looking :?
Too refined and lost it's way.
I love the shape of my Mark I,it's a classic sports car design.
I'm not too sure about the Mark II,maybe it will grow on me.
I think with the Mark I, we will have a modern classic if we keep hold of them.
Just like the Mark I Golf GTI when they first came out.

You have a mark 2 - original is 2003-05 then came your shameful facelift :poke:

only kidding- welcome along and please post pics of ur z!

I will post some pics when we have some nice weather to take some! :)
Well, the Mark I and II were the same shape really but I know where you are coming from.
That was just a face lift'
The face lift isn't that bad,at least it has the clear indicaters! :D
All the models should have had angel eyes as standard.
They would look the dogs b******s with them babys, why didn't BMW do it?
No worrie's Paddy mate

I like the new shape Z4 except the rear end looks a bit of an afterthought. Mk 1 is a more complete design package IMO and has aged well.

Welcome and hope you enjoy your Z4.

When I first saw the e85 in 2003, my first thoughts were of how butch it looked, but yes stunning too. four years later I purchased a 2.5si in Phoenix Yellow.

When I first saw the e89 in the showroom I knew that this would be my next car. Comparing my initial reactions between the two, the e89 was a clear winner.....pure lust

As for the rear end, this is one of my favourite angles

IUmm... In vw talk you technically have a mk1 z4.

The e85 regardless of pre or post facelift is the same. The e89 would be the mk2.

The m2 vw golf had minor facelift mid life with clear front indicators on the bumper too!!

Either way... I used to prefer the prefacelift rear lights on the e85... But now i think the facelift ones look more modern.

The e89 has really grown on me, i think its styling is an improvement over the e85 :fuelfire: if only it didnt have the awful boot capacity with the roof lowered.

Peddy stated that he was joking on the 2006 e85 being the mk2 :poke:

The "what car next" theme has been done to death, but if #69 ever makes me bored, a 35iS will be high on the replacement list. I love the look of the E89

This pleases me. I was gutted when my 2 year old son pointed at a pic of a red E85 and said "lady car"

I like the e89 from most angles, when you see one coming towards you on the road they do look good. However, I think folding hard tops in most cases cause a design compromise so the cars are never as nice as they could have been with the roof up or down.

To be honest I doubt either will become a classic. The ///M cars might but i think of that era the e46 M3 and without a shadow of a doubt (already in fact) the CSL will be the classic. Especially as more and more of them get killed or ruined by careless owners.

Lovely rear end there, Sars. There, I've said it (that's my morning "Taz" moment over and done with....)

Know what you mean Stuart, I couldn't downsize to a smaller engine, would miss all that grunt too much. Would love it if Alpina would do an E89 version, but there's no chance of that....

Dont think the analogy works for the E85 pre and post-facelift. Besides even in VW terms generally speaking a facelift is not regarded as a new mk

Take the Polo for example the Mk3 was 6N and 6N2 but they look totally different in my opinion. Same for the mk4 (9N and then 9N3).

I would classify the E85/E86 as the Mk1 and the E89 as the Mk2 though.

Oh - this could turn into a coupe vs roadster debate. I like it

I prefer the smaller, more compact original Z4. It's a neat package. I also think the Mk1/E85 is better looking. Mk1 is more nimble and raw I think.

The Mk2/E89 is a bigger, more comfortable, and arguable faster (with the exception of the ///M) overall car. However, it's been eating quite a few pies, and is a bit heavy/big for my liking. More of a cruiser....

Both good cars. All down to personal taste

i never liked the e89 from the day it came out.

but seeing white m sport ones on here has changed my mind.

it's still very feminine in it's styling (suprise suprise, designed by a woman), whereas the e85/e86 is more rugged and muscular.

i do like the folding hard top, but it limits boot space massively when down.

I really like the E89 Z4 think its stunning, interior well crafted well equipped with unique styling a perfect package its just when you drive it the package changes. Getting into one is a lot more sedate, less noise, more refined. Much more of a GT car than an all out sports car, which is what I want. Getting into the 35i out of my M was a strange experience thinking there wouldn't be much in it. The 35i is much easier to live with, easier to drive, better equipped with new tech, nicer inside and quieter but its doesn't put a smile on my face it doesn't have the M factor, not quite as mental as I would have hoped. There is no M in sight either.

Does this mean its a bad car. By no means, it is almost a perfect car, it is excellent and in many ways superior to the E85 its just lost its character a bit. I blame the american market, I also blame them for the E90&E92 M3 compare them to the E46 which was a dog off a leash the E92 is more mature, but poke it and it will rip your face off. But still awesome cars just too evolved now. Need to add some more excitement, almost like you feel it wants to kill you haha! :driving:

JDMs is very nice and im not a fan of white but it looks great!
