I found ever ones views on the other thread very interesting indeed, its a shame it was locked before I could have my say,,,,,never mind. So whats my view? Well I am pretty much of the same opinion of Colonel Tim

the popular daily mail comments are a bit bilious.
But I liked this one...

This entire story reminds me of a quote from Nietzsche which I thinks aptly applies to this situation. "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you."

i couldnt be bothered to read up on all of the previous thread as some peoples opinions wind me up. but i would say this. the nazi soldiers murdered and executed loads of civilians, pow's etc. they were following orders no matter how vile and if they didnt, they would be executed themselves. this guy, knew the rules of combat and wasnt following any orders. in fact, he knowingly went against orders and those laid down by the geneva convention, he followed his heart. his heart unfortunately was a cess pit

they speak about this post war trauma that many soldiers suffer from. i personally believe that they suffer because they themselves have done wrong and cannot live with what they have done. it haunts them everyday of their existence until they die. then there are those who have done nothing wrong, they fought a fair fight, they did not execute, rape or pillage and are not haunted

SF, totally agree. Good article, well presented. I also find it very hard not to rise to some of the posts on here, but I tend to keep my opinions and thoughts on these issues very close - there are enough on this forum (and in general life) who do not have the experience necessary to understand, but are more than willing to judge.

Great post - thank you

agreed, if anyone deserves some treatment help and understanding - its the guys on the front line. wrong is wrong and there it cant be swept under the carpet but the guy clearly needs help, and not because he spent too long playing COD, he was doing his job
