Manual roof release lever broken

Hi folks,

So I've finally got my first z4 and set about giving it a god clean today.

During cleaning I attempted to open what I thought was a top compartment inside the car which turns out to be the manual roof release.

I pushed it a little too far and it's snapped and now sits half attached at an angle :-(

My question is will this affect the electronic opening and closing?

I don't think it will but now just panicking to out the roof down in case it doesn't go up again.

Any advice is appreciated

Scott

Hi,

You have to pull that cable to go into manual mode, you've pushed it so it should be OK.

Just make sure that the cable is not under tension ..pulled ! as this will bypass the system.

If there is a problem now(which I doubt) it will not open or close, so just try it !

From memory that button is only applicable to manual roof models, so not applicable to UK cars.

Thanks guys, from what I read from the manual it's what you push in after the cable is pulled to get the roof back up.

My fear was a little spring or something might have snapped and fallen into the mechanism. I'll just give it a try in the morning and ten try and find some way to make the lever look presentable again

The button is a dummy in facelifts. Otherwise the cover is easily removed to investigate and effect some sort of remediation. It's not the end of the world if the roof does not lock down. Open the storage door and remove two expansion rivets at the lower edge of the panel that were obscured by the closed door. Lift carefully while pushing rearwards to release the retaining hooks. Carefully because the hooks break easily. If one or two break, the panel will still re-install decently. You could use bits of double stick emblem tape if more are broken.

oh OK... read it properly now, thought it was the Roof manual release ring(Red) in the boot !! :slaphead:
Your mistake was reading the title. :) My memory is so bad I'd forgotten what it said by the time the page loaded to read the rest. Otherwise I'd have made the same mistake.
