prefer not to divulge tbh, but let's just say i had to do some 'financial re-planning' for the next couple of years.
Fortunately I was allowed to pay in installments.
Would advise everyone to get trackday insurance in place even though its not obligatory to have it there.
Just glad I didn't spin arse around tit into some rich boys Gumpert Apollo!

Not to cause any agro - but i do wonder why you wouldn't disclose costs?

FWIW - a bit of googling and you'll find examples of £250, £1000, £2500 and upto £30,000 bills for varying levels of crash.

Basically - there are no runoffs, and repairs are costly, and its hard to get insurance to cover the majority of costs.. so dont crash

As it's still somewhat embarrassing tbh.
Risk-management, in my line of work, is everything. I betrayed my own instincts and principles to save a few quid and paid the price. Dearly. Hence, not really the kind of thing I enjoy putting a figure on, and would prefer to put behind me.
It's good that there are other examples which are easily found and hopefully this motivates people to seek getting cover.
Of course, 'not crashing' is the preferred modus for everyone who goes there, but the realism is that you can get caught out any time and that's when you end up saying to yourself, as you sit there squirming in your seat covered in broken glass, breathing in oil smoke and wondering if ur motor is going to burst into flames 's**t, this is gonna cost a few quid...'

I guess it's one of those lessons! I'm sure i've been through a few and regretted not doing something but for the life of me can't remember any (so clearly didn't learn from any!)

Personally i've no real interest in actually pushing it on the ring, if so i'll be renting a car i guess. Plenty of other tracks to master with safe runoff and less of a drive to get to them

My modus operandi for any Nurburgring trip is:

• Don't crash (not driving like a dick can mitigate this somewhat, but also watch out for others driving like dicks and give them a wide berth)
• Have track insurance to cover your own car as most road policies will not cover you at the Nurburgring (mine is about £200 for 3 days of £15k cover with £1.5k excess)
• Have an empty credit card to cover the track costs (I have one I use for business expenses with a £25k limit)
• Hope that any 3rd party liability is picked up by your road insurer and they don't come after you for it

I've enjoyed many a cold & frosty morning at the Ring, and by 9am I've got 4 or 5 laps under my belt and am confident of how the track is driving. This is a great part of the day to overtake the exotic stuff on their first couple of laps as you know the track conditions better than them - it's also good as it's usually quiet before 9am.
