Mad to get suspension geo done at dealer?

Car is in for a service in a couple of weeks so I decided to have a few other things done at the same time for convenience including a suspension geo. Its not had one since I've had it so I think it could benefit given all the potholes and open drain covers its had to deal with on the British roads. But will I get ripped off having the dealer do it? Had a bad experience having a geo done on another car at an independent garage before (could have killed me!).

Most BMWs requires weighted blocks located in the car. If they set to specs without the blocks, it wont even be close when you sit in it and drive it down the road. Have the dealer do it, and it should be right.

Not sure about getting ripped off, but it'll probably be reassuringly expensive, but should be done properly at least.

Thanks for the replies - my mind is put to rest. Reassuringly expensive is fine if its reassuringly done well. :D

It was just when she said they wanted to keep the car for a second day to do the service, brake pads & fluid, and the geo that it dawned on me this could be an expensive one!

It all depends whether you want to retain the original geo settings. The factory settings are abysmal unless tramlining and steering wander is your thing. Why not give them some improved settings or get a professional indy to do it instead of paying good money for crap handling? Few dealers know much about set up with regards to what adjustments will improve what handling charactristic. They simply set it to factory spec whether you like it or not. Seems like wasted potential to me. Hitting a few potholes and messing up the geo might have actualy done you some favours!

I would personally do the leg work and find a local reputable shop (non dealer) able to do all services. I've already found a very good local mom-and-pop shop that is well equipped to service both of my cars once the warranty expires (soon unfortunately :( ).

Curtis - pretty sure the potholes haven't done it any favours but I hear what you're saying about the original settings. :P
