Machine Monkey exhaust tips: fitting

Okay, I’m confused. I have a set of MM exhaust tips and have removed the existing stock tips but you can easily see the tailpipes inside. Is this right or am I doing something really stupid? Pics Ive seen show just clean tips with minimal/no stock tips showing.

I’ve fitted the tips on. Still look a little strange to me but interested to hear what others think. Surely you don't cut down your stock tips once youve removed the oem chrome covers. Ive been through this forum with a fine tooth comb and cant see any reference to that - its always been slide off old tips - put on new ones.

Not sure what you were expecting? That the MM tips magically made the original tips disappear?
I think I was expecting to not see quite so much original tip after years on this forum seeing others use them without quite the same effect.
…and maybe some advice from those that have them fitted.

If you notice most photos are taken top down, hence why you don't see the innards. Also, are you sure you have the right size and there isn't a size down that's more snug? The Z4 has a few different shapes and sizes of original pipes?

I’ve seen a few posts about the state of tail pipes on the E85/86. My car has the option code 350 ‘sa auspuffanlage verchromt’ which translates loosely to chrome plated exhaust system. Isn’t this a standard item?
My tips aren’t too bad and responded well to a bit of time with metal polish and a lot of rubbing.

Absolutely, I’ve noticed there aren't many lower down or rear only shots of the tips. They fit/tighten up fine, so I’m not too worried about the width. Maybe I’m just used to seeing the ‘rolled’ over chrome tips and just need to live with them for a while.

I’ve adjusted them slightly so they don’t stick out quite as much but still look okay. Around 30mm from inner tip to outer edge. Just in case anyone is reading this that has the same thoughts or concerns.

I just had a look back on my first Zed when I had the MM tips and you can see the original pipes on mine to842CF5DE-E2E6-4549-A428-29DBD60EAE21.jpeg

Thanks all. I think its as thecremeegg says, thats sort of the deal with these. Im happy with where I’ve placed them, and tbh I, not sure what I expected. They look good though and are symmetrical, and looking at yours Eddie, they sit similar so I’ll leave them on.

You have to twist and pull (with some force) the original tip covers off, Zedebee.

My existing tail pipes are slightly oval in shape and are darker in colour so when the MM tips are fitted you don't notice them so much. Maybe if you sprayed some heat resistant Black or dark Grey paint on them before you fit the MM tips it won't look so noticeable

Personally I dont think the £20 Amazon ones can be beat. Original pipes slide into rolled edge so you don't see it. Snug enough to stay on without the screw fitted so just pull off, clean and slide back on when they get a bit grubby.
