I'm going to have to start taking a decent camera with me more often, I always find myself with decent photo opportunities and only having a P&S with me! Bit of fill-flash on that last shot would have made for a lovely picture, oh well :(

These were taken at Crowden on the road across to Holmfirth , which is a brilliant road. There's also a nice little road back off the Woodhead pass which cuts back to Glossop which is quite pleasant, nice views of the reservoirs with some good sharp little corners, the B6105.

Manchester's a great place to live, we've a buzzing city and then 10 mins from the M60 and you can be soaking up the views of the Peak district and the Yorkshire moors. Here's a rough map of the route I did: http://bit.ly/9df0dG

I forgot to mention actually... spotted lots of Z4's around that route. Couple of new shapes, fair few around Glossop. Must be the excellent roads makes people want to drive a nice sporty motor :)

i don't like to make commitments, but i am 90% wanting to go, a local meet and convoy over would be good

ye, where was my invite, urghhhh

Sorry dudes! I'd been working all morning and was going stir crazy, bit of sun seemed to be breaking through so I couldn't resist grabbing the car keys and going for a spin :)

I'll drop a post to the board next time! :)

Here here, give me a shout next time :driving:

You coming on the Wales run next week, John?

I didn't know it was happening actually, I don't tend to check the meets forum but Taz just PM'd me about it. I've a project going live on the 12th which may mean I need to work the weekend, so not sure if I'll make it or not - will only really know closer to the time :\

Looks good though, have subscribed to the thread so I'll keep an eye on it - definitely up for it, Wales is such a nice run from Manc it'd be criminal not to :)

I'll have an invite next time too please! Not far from me really. My sister is in Manchester studying so i'm at one end and she's at the other :)

Nice pictures, love the 3rd one

You probably know those roads a lot better than me then, suggestions for good ones always welcome as I tend to often head out that way in the car or on the bike :)

The third pic I'm going to revisit again with a couple of flashes and a decent camera, think that's got the makings of a photo competition candidate with a suitable backdrop :)

omg - think i know the spot you took those pics too!

I often drive from Derby to Hyde for work, and go via glossop to bypass the traffic.

Great pics too

It was here! :)

I'd done a search for the highest point in Manchester, thinking it'd probably be ideal for a picture opportunity (it was a last minute idea for somewhere to drive to) and it turned out there were two main places in the results, the first was for the highest spot in the city of Manchester, at the top of a bypass about 2 miles from where I live. So I counted that one out as it's not particularily picturesque :)

The second hit was for a place called Black Chew Head which is about 3/4 of a mile away from the place I took the photo, but I couldn't drive to there so had to go somewhere close :)

The top of that road I was on is at around ~1720 foot, which could well be the highest spot for a few miles but unfortunately isn't in Greater Manchester any longer :)

So basically, in a Top Gear stylee, I tried to find the highest point in Greater Manchester for a nice photo, but failed.
