Guys

Was flicking around on PH and stumble across the old M6's ... anyone owned one of these 500 Bhp monsters?

If so whats the running costs etc and maintenance would be useful to know, I understand the mpg is bad but I do not do to many miles so do not care that much.

Cheers Paza

Colleague of mine had a 650i sport for just under a year which he loved. He would have kept it to had he not lost his job. It was fast and luxurious.

His was the convertible E64 which was less appealing to me due to the soft top but still nice enough. I have previously owned a 635Csi (E24 and cannot say enough how much I loved it .. except for the rust!).

I am considering the F06 Gran Coupe as one of my future cars of course thats cost dependent as they are ludicrously expensive.

Things to note about the E63 M6 I guess would be high owners, high miles, usual abused cars and high running costs but I'm sure you knew all of that anyway!

Running costs are pretty bad and a warranty is a must. Clutches and brakes are big consumables costs. I think a new clutch is £3k and £2k for brakes.

I didn't have the balls to buy a E61 M5, so bought a E61 550i instead. 1 of 7 manuals as it happens. I never regretted it, I couldn't of lived with the MPG, running costs and potential repairs.

I looked and thought about an m6 before I bought the 650i and my OH even said get the m6 then my sensible head said don't even go an look at one

As original guvnor says brakes cost a fortune, servicing adds up and if anything goes wrong

On the other hand, what a monster

I can see the attraction at these kind of Prices....

No sign of Coupe Tax either

Running cost on the last M6 are rather large, by ///M standards. Plus when, not if, something goes wrong with it, you’re looking a thousands, so a warranty is absolutely essential.

I considered one before buying my Z4, but the thing’s too big for me, would have been a coupe and those potential/ inevitable bills. Ouch!

Take a look here.

It's all in the description of the add,

This vehicle has had an immense amount of work carried out on it during its life including SMG pump replaced, Brand new gearbox, Clutch replaced, Throttle actuators, Brakes.

Just make sure you take out a warranty.

Think it's about £130 a month Adam. Seem to recall hearing that figure on PH. I'd gone through a phase of lusting after an E60 M5 with Meisterschaft exhaust!

I like the M5, and plenty around within M Coupé money. They just don't look at special. I'd love to drive one though

It's an interesting one coming form Porker ownership 3k does not sound that bad , when things go wrong with the Porkers it's 8-10k. But at the same time who wants the hassle???

An m5 does not look special enough , hence why I was thinking M6 ... But looks like I would need to spend closer to 20k for a decent one and not wanting to spend that much tbh .....

Trawling the internet I did come up with another possible contender to the M6 / Z4M ..... E46 M3 CS ?

Look to be a good investment, having a little one now I would like 4 seats so we can all use it....

But Cool getting two seats just means less use I guess ,Mrs Paza says she does not really care

If the front brakes on my 1.9 Z3 :) cost a grand from BMW then unless you have a bottomless money pit then forget it, unless you trust Halfords. As said a warranty would be a must but its the consumables not covered by a warranty that would hurt. Older they get the more they hurt hence why cheap. I would only buy and keep short term, have the fun then get rid.

Tim.
