Wow. This little roadster has been morphed into a DTM beast by removing 1 cubic inch of foam - resonator works pretty well eh? Not heard this sound since 2004 and it's got better with age!
Love playing with this E85 - having a key to a car you know but is not yours with full permissions :thumbsup:

I put one piece back after a while cos it started to grate. I might take it out again...

i give you three weeks then you will put the foam back in, wait until it starts penetrating your nut.
 
All foam out, 1.5 weeks in and I'm still loving it! :D

But it's not a daily, and if I had to do a long journey (like a whole weekends worth) I might put some back in. Thanks BMW for making this such an easy mod :thumbsup:
 
Might have to take out the other foam bung today to experience this for myself.
 
if you lose any of the pieces you can always fashion one out of similar density foam. (is that what u were referring to PVR?)
it's not a 'mission-critical' shape imo and I lost both pieces but cut up some foam roughly the same size and replaced the one by the bulkhead. sounds just reet now

I found removing both pieces then cutting one of the pieces in half and putting just half of one back in gave the best result...just enough to give a good volume of induction noise without the penetrating brain bashing :D
 
Not a daily for me - not even my car - and the normal driver doesn't normally take it over about 3k revs so I don't think either of us are on too much danger of having our ears bleed :thumbsup:

Foam or no foam it makes zero difference when driving normaly, only loud (ish) when you properly on it.

Sound generator mod, aka induction pipe had two foam bits removed to give more noise inside the cabin.
 
I agree with marius. I recently fitted a sound generator and it had no foam at all. The car sounds absolutely normal (as in it sounds like it did before the sound generator) when driving below 3k revs, although when you plant your foot down its something else entirely.
