m135i

But it's not just a Ford hatch in the sense that the M135i is just a 1 series. It's basically a focus shell with all new fancy stuff underneath.

Ahem its a 1 Series fettled by M Division but built on the same assembly line as the standard car so not a full blown M. Not knocking the Ford but for the most it will still be hum drum Focus, interior etc, I think the concensus already is its doesn't feel special enough, I've noticed the same being said of the M2 and interestingly people are managing to order a 2016 bulid slot after BMW said they are all taken, so does make you wonder if people have had second thoughts, cancelled and ordered an M3/M4.

Tim.

I may yet still get an m135i, the deals i'm being offered are ridiculous... however my main reservation is the lack of any special feeling really - it's the best 'non-special' hot hatch (ie not M/RS/AMG/R etc), drives great and the pre-LCI isn't too ugly, but just needs that final 10% of something to make me want to part with money for it.

The first thing that I really want from a vehicle is for it to look good and to me the 1 series doesnt look good.
Performance for me comes second as you cant really use most vehicles to their full potential anyway.
I am kinda struggling for what car to get next (will be at least next year) I need something completely different to the Z4, more than likely 4 doors and possibly an SUV type car. Would love an X6 or an X4 but cant afford any of them and there is not much else that looks good.
Been looking at Volvo XC60s as they look not bad and Toyota Rav4s but dont think they would be special enough to run alongside the Z4.
Like the 4 series and by the time I am looking they might be in my price range but theres not much else I could afford that I like.

I think you nailed it - in order to want to buy a car you have to like how it looks, be satisfied with the performance and the driving experience, and it do all the things you want/need it to be able to do. I'm still stuck at RS3 as the only option for all of the above, we'll see. Newer cars seem to be more dollah these days :(

The zed being a bit of a bargain makes for a tricky hunt when looking to upgrade/change. The best SUV i've seen thus far is probably the SQ5. Volvo is also pretty nice - very comfortable and understated.

Im hopefully going for a Discovery 4 next, but a very different proposition to the SQ5 etc. I have seen a few SQ5 near where i live and they do look nicest, but a bit too bling for me. Im sure they go well though.

Never really understood the negativity over the 1 Series looks as to me it's individual compared to most boggo hatches, whereas SUVs to me are completely pointless cars in the main.

Everybody likes different things, most people will say a 2 seater sports car is pointless, they may be right.
Stick a 1 series in a car park and nobody will look twice at it, doesnt really matter what engine it has.
A GT86 will get a lot more looks.
Personally I would rather have a 4 series over an SUV but cost will dictate what I get and I think I want to experience the ownership of one.
I find a lot of cars these days are just boring looking while SUVs are looking a bit different.

Thanks lee

I considered a 1 coupe instead of the z answer was surprised at how they felt inside was expecting the non leather seats to not be so good. But I do get what people mean. I like the idea of a focus rs but then at car shows and stuff I see the people in the club or lurk on the forum and just think I dont want to be part of the scene. Same for a ricer vtec.

I know it's probably a fantastic car, but it's a 1 series. I can never seem to get past that.

If you want a fast rear wheel drive hatch with a 6cyl motor theres not much choice out there lol I'm on my third 1 Series now and all haven't missed a beat, but then I'm just as bad looking at the new Focus RS and can't get past its just a Ford hatch at the end of the day

I still quite fancy another E89 but I was just dissapointed with it, build quality etc for what it costs :(

Tim.
I often think of what i will replace mine with:
TT - too many of them on the roads
M235i/135i - great cars but not good looking
4 series - great looking but a tad too big
Golf R - its still a Golf not a bespoke coupe

Thinking of keeping mine longer, upgrading to a 35is or getting an F type if they drop enough
