///M Temporary Car During Service?

Friend of mine told me we should be entitled to temporary car of the same class when the dealer is servicing our cars. In our case it should be another M car, but all the dealers seem to have 116i or Mini's, sometimes even Corsa's! Have you heard of this too?

I'm grateful for a loan car - am I bothered if it's the same class/style/quality ....no. If it gets me from A to B safely and reliably during the time my car is in for service then thats OK by me.

Why would a dealer have to give you an equivalent car during a service? They don't have to give you a car at all.

Are you mixing servicing up with a courtesy car after an accident (where the insurance company might guarantee an equivalent car whilst yours is being fixed)?

I can't see that as a reasonable or sensible request. Dealer would have to keep a fleet of ///m's just for that purpose. Even insurance companies no longer do that following accidents, in most cases supplying just a basic Micra.

Dealer will lend you anything they have available. Usually the courtesy or sometimes demo or sales teams cars and then only if you book well in advance and they have one available.

Easy, easy when was the last time you drove a 116.....?

Drove that 116 for a week (~300 miles), poor thing was screaming like a lil b%$&h till it reached 60.. decided to time it, had to eventually use a calendar....
Also, people around me thought i'd been having financial difficulties..

The positive side was that getting back into the Z4M was as fun as driving it for the first time, no more "I think it's bit too slow for me now"..

I endure driving a 2002 Ka (mine  ) when not in the Zed or X5. I get trampled on by every road user so understand.

My daughter takes the Cooper S in for warranty and they send her a Mini 1 covered in Environmentally friendly green logos.

Still they are cars and beat the hell out of public transport.

My dealer uses the demo cars assigned to the sales team which are either top of the line 1 or 3 series or an X3's... :driving:

I'm happy to get a free courtesy car at all, and most of the time I'll be offered a 'lift' to the station or such.

However, I would prefer if they let me know whether I was getting a courtesy car before I turn up, so that I can arrange things accordingly. I don't mean in the instances where you just turn up and expect a car, I'm on about the instances where I've specifically booked 4 weeks in advance to have a courtesy car available.

No chance....

Most dealers have a small fleet of loan vehicles specifically for the purpose, and 99% of the time they are Mini Ones and 116is / 120ds. Most dealers ask you to book 3-4 weeks in advance to get a courtesy car, otherwise you tend to get a shuttle service. Occasionally - at the dealers discretion - you get lent one of the sales teams cars if nothing else is available. 325s, Z4 3.0s, etc etc depending on what they have at the time. Very rarely, if your dealer likes you, he might lend you an M3 or something, particularly if they thin k they might get a sale out of it.

But there is no way a dealer would keep a bunch of Ms (with the inherent running costs and depreciation) as courtesy cars. Let alone the risk of having them returned on their roofs...

how about we change the topic to which dealer providees the best courtesy car or which is the best courtesy car you have ever received from a dealer? will be good to know this next time when my car is due for servicing

For my recent inspection 1 Bateman's BMW loaned me a 320d M sport saloon which was a very good car indeed. Her indoors is seriously thinking about replacing her X5 with one.

When I had my 320d, free temp cars were a Z3 convertible and two E38 7 series. Since the Z4's, I've had a MINI Cooper (they don't go like stink, actually quite slow cars :) and a E60 520d with satnav and leather interior.

last time i had my insp2 done at my local indy, they gave me a 100K mile 3 series diesel. i wasnt bothered at all because as soon as i got mine back it felt like it had just left the showroom compared to the 'taxi' i had been driving for a day !

anything but the peasent wagon (the bus) makes me happy.
