M Specific Iphone 3gs Question

Hey guys

i have finally managed to pick up another iphoe as I lost mine before I got the Z.

I now have one, and I need to find the best solution for playing the music on it in my car.

Am i right in saying that all M's have the sat nav etc

Mine also has DSP, and I can also confirm I have the phone cradle in my central compartment.

So what I need to know is what solution do I need to be able to have my phone in my pocket and be able to play the music through my sat nav / stereo, and also use it as a phone for incoming calls.

One thing I couldnt find in my car was there was no microphone to be found in the car, is this hidden.

Im not to bothered about having to plug it in so that it charges, I may end up just getting a cigarette lighter solution if needs be, or maybe if there was a solution that offered you to hard wire it and charge it, and also have it in your pocket if you dont plug it in.

Any ideas??

Wiser member will be along shortly...but until then I'll provide what info I can..

I have a Z4M with bluetooth phone prep, DSP and the Aux port. I also own a 3GS iPhone. With regards to the microphone, check above your line of sight on the steering wheel further back on the steering rack, it will be a small black thing.

Not all M's have the sat nav, it was an option (and I don't have it). I believe that people with the sat nav have more options for displaying songs and info on the screen via something called "Intravee". I'm sure people will be along shortly to provide more info on this or you can search.

My solution was a BMW fitted Aux port, which you can fit yourself with the guide somewhere on here. This allows a 3.5mm jack cable to plug into the car and into your phone (at the top), then I put my iPod app on shuffle and allow "shake to shuffle". Press mode and it will put audio to Aux port, press play on iPhone and voila! If you need to change song, just double tap the button on the iPhone and shake to shuffle to another song (easier than it sounds). This won't charge the phone, only allow you to play music crudely onto the sound system.

So you can use the bluetooth module to use the iPhone for calls, on the nav screen go to the Telephone option to pair the device (you will need the pairing code from your module). The mic will be on the steering cowl just between the wheel and the clocks.

As for streaming music via bluetooth it can't be done with the BT kit in the car. You can use the Aux as has already been mentioned, or better as you have is to install an Intravee (http://www.intravention.co.uk/). This will give you full control of your iPhone/pod and be able to veiw all track listings, and search properly. Have a search for installation guides and background info on this forum.

Simplest solution for me was to fit the intravee and use an iPod for all my music that lives permanently in the storage where the nav drive lives. Then via Bluetooth my 3GS is connected to my cars BT module for phone calls (once paired it syncs automatically each time you get in the car assuming your BT is switched on on your iPhone).

I get on fine using an fm transmitter for tunes and blutooth for calls, cheap and cheerful! I have a lot of mp3 CDs in the glovebox when required but on the whole the fm thingy stands up well.
