M Mileage

Okay, I never expected this to be an economy car, but I'm a bit surprised that it's as thristy as it is. I suspect the OBC's mileage calculation is not terribly accurate, but for comparison purposes it should be reasonable. On my former 3.0l, I was getting a pretty steady 9.7l/100 km, but with the M Roadster it's more like 13.5l/100km.

Now considering I'm not thrashing this car nearly as much as I did the 3.0 (that was used, this is new and yes I am observing the break in procedures), I'm a bit surprised at the difference.

Will this get better once the engine gets some miles on it, or is this about what I can expect?

While I don't have an "M" those that do have reported that you can expect to see some improvement as you get some miles on past the break-in-period... :thumbsup:
 
Nah... thirsty? :? Not any worse than an SUV. I had expected it before purchase. I'm averaging 22-23MPG now (mixed city/hwy, but more hwy), and I'm @ ~8300miles (13,280 km).

If you want to talk thirsty, look at the M5/M6 :o
 
I've heard this before, I used to get 25-29mpg out of the M3 so was expecting it to be better if anything due to the lower weight.

If you drive the car properly this should be your average reading or anything less than 20 mpg.

M cars aren't about fuel economy!! :driving:

I think I would cry though if I had an E60 M5!
 
my 07MC has been giving me about 16-19mpg

I get about 230-250 miles range

Its not great, if you drive this car like its meant to be driven.

I had expected it to be worse than the 3.0 as well, but really my question centers on how it might improve with some miles on it. Thanks.
 
I get better mileage form my Infiniti FX45!! That gives me around 18 miles to the US gallon. I get about 16 miles to the US gallon with the Z4M :thumbsup:

As I said in the very first line of my post, I knew this was not going to be an economy car. Again, my question was related more to how the mileage would improve over time than the mileage as an absolute number.

Sorry for all the "metrically challenged". "Miles" and "US Gallons" don't mean much to me, just like l/100 km likely don't mean much to you.

I was having a laugh as well. :thumbsup: It should improve as the engine gets some miles on it, mine certainly did until it went bang!!!
 
Greetings from my first roadtrip in my M roadster. I started the day with 2200 miles and drove 750 miles today. OBC shows 23.5 mpg but my calculations came out to 24.3 mpg. Not much spirited driving today, maintained speeds of 74-80 mph all day. (saw 95-100 once or twice)

I got 30-31 mpg in my old z4 3.0 so I'm not disappointed at all. :driving:

Don't worry, I've just passed the 10 000 km mark and I keep a consistent 14.0 l / 100 k, so it can only get worse :P
I stopped monitoring the mpg, it just distracts from my enjoyment of the car. . .
