I'm afraid i'm a convertible man not a BMW man so i don't and never have felt that BMW was much of a brand to aspire to

Replace man with woman and that's me :D

Its a big dilema...

After watching all of the vanos, spring, passenger airbag stuff here I am afraid I took a safer, more boring option

Lexus IS Convertible

Sorry and no offence intended, but that is the fugliest convertible on the market bar none, hmmm except maybe that other Lexus, the SC

As for the op, if you want a fast four seater convertible, why not get Audi S4 convertible.... 4.2 Litre V8. Whatever you decide make the choice with your heart first and your brain second, cars that make you smile are not rational choices

DB7 doesn't do it for me either. Monaro/VXR8 has some interest, but I know I'd miss the soft top. M3 V8 also has some interest, but unfortunately a 3 series will always be a 3 series and as they age they get snapped up by chavs and spivs to be murdered by 20" rims, massive sound systems seen round town centres on friday & saturday nights. You all seen the shaven headed, tattood bruiser in the M3 cabrio and the spivvy asians with gelled hair and all sorts of crap hanging from the rear view mirror, cruising round the town centre on a saturday night in their M3.Stereotype I know, and apologise if I offend, BUT, I have seen these guys everywhere, all driving M3 cabrio's.You NEVER see these types in Z4's. :D

buy the 650i

bet you'd find a manual for a song & get a high spec & decent colour and it will be great fun to play with.

bigshurv, you have hinted at this in one of your posts, but why not get a Z4M instead. Fits your criteria of being financially crippling but without overdoing it, and you wouldn't be disappointed. The 6 series is just a barge, never really liked them, apart from maybe the 635d.

Yes, loooking at a used one.Would never pay out that much for a car when 2 years later they are worth half. This one is a 56 plate with 42k.It is a bit of a barge and I do wonder if I'll get bored after a while. A Z4M is also tempting but I won't drive it any faster than my current 3.0 as most of the time I've got my missus and dog in the car ( I have a company car for my day to day stuff),but I want a keeper and I think an M would make a more tempting keeper.I'll have a look for one of those. :D

What about a classic 911, more twitchy to drive but more fun possibly. Nothing gives you the sense of connection to the road like an old healey, but you won't have the creature comforts of a modern car. A classic will be an appreciating asset. How many times have i kicked myself for not buying a 356, (twice actually and neither time could i have really done it if i'm honest) but every time i get close to it the prices have moved away again.

Nissan GT-R ... no-one will ever say you got it because it's pretty.... but they are scary fast.

BINGO! I agree with that choice: Ugly and scary fast (so nobody has the time to spot you sitting in one!)

I've had 2 over the years...first a 645 and then a 650.....650 was a replacement from BMW due to problems with the roof on the first one. It went in 30 times in 18 months, and then went seriously into negative equity and BMW helped me very kindly into a new one. Kept it for 2 months and then sold it.....

Such a lovely car and I would always go for the V8. But to be truthful, I think I prefer my Z4. Was always consciously aware of the large back end, and rear seats just going redundant with the roof down. Got same MPG in the 6 as I do in the Z, but that's my fault, not the cars!

Servicing was very expensive from what I can remember, and I preferred the facelift in Sept 07....tyres were cheaper than my Z I think.....

Thanks for that feedback nickm, I thing it going to be a Z4M roadster or keep what I have. The standard Z4 is so good that finding a replacement good enough to be worth shelling out a load of cash on is really hard.
