LSD Options

Hi All,

Doing a bit of research before I buy an Si: Looking if anyone has had a LSD fitted recently and can recommend anyone? Preferably around Berkshire.

Lots of info relates to old companies.

From what I can see:
e46 M3 rear subframe retrofit around £1k
quaif type from Birds around £1400
MFACTORY (not sure what the diff is to quaif)
Possibly Grinspeed,
possibly Gary Feakins Racing (appears to be closed?)
Possibly J C Racing.

I understand these will fit into the standard 188(?) diff housing.

I would be looking for a shorter final drive also.

Anyone im missing?

I had a Quaife unit fitted to my 3.0si by Birds - they did a group discount a couple of years ago for us. Cracking mod you won't regret it :thumbsup:

I'm guessing you're more interested in a 'road-friendly' lsd rather than a gripper or similar right?

The only other diff that might be worth looking at is a wavetrac but they're essentially the same as a quaife but more expensive (yes they do have a mechanism which supposedly provides some power to the wheel with grip when the opposite wheel is in a no-load situation - its token at best in my research)
 
Actually I am looking to build a track car so leaning towards a plated diff rather than the helical type but im open at the moment. I intend on some drift days too.

the wavetrac seem a step above. mind if i ask what birds were doing it for? its 1400 on their website now.
 
Have a word with Darragh at Everything M3's in Banbury. His garage was like an LSD factory when I dropped my car there for some work, would be amazed if he wouldn't be able to sort you out with whatever you need. Plus he's a top guy, decent prices and an ex-F1 mechanic to boot.
 
Thanks. The bit thats killing it at the moment is the potential 500 quid for new bearings. Thats making it likely a 2k diff :(
 
Gary Freakins racing - wasn't there an issue of him borrowing a hardtop and never returning it? something to do with the Zcar racing series.
 
FWIW, I've just bought a Kaaz 1.5 way (for racing).

Have you looked at Kaaz and OS Giken?
 
i am thinking a plated diff is preferential for a track car. anyone got a view on plated vs helical and final drive?
 
Only problem with a helical on track is if you get wheel lift. Plated diff is the way to go if you're chasing the best possible lap times.

I have a helical in my track car (Nissan 200SX) as it was a much cheaper option.
