lsd for 35i z4

I know that Quaiffe will happily fit one. I sent an email to Birds asking them if it is doable. They said yes although they would have to replace the final drive(!!) due to the difference in casings.

I asked them if the lsd would run concurrently with the EDL. They said yes but I doubt it. Wouldn't the EDL brake the inside wheel even for the slightest of spins?

If that is doable and all would run smoothly I would consider exchanging my z4m coupe with a 360bhp-500nm 35i packed with an lsd!!!

The truth of the matter is that the z4mcis a hardcore vehicle and people who jump out of it tend to expect an improvement throughout. One of the assets of this car is without doubt its diff (albeit with certain reliability issues).

If someone was to drive a 35i without having driven the z4m then surely they would be blown away (unless they were previously driving an f430 or a lp640!!!).

I would be willing (reluctantly actually) to replace my z4mc with a 35i provided that (a) I would achieve a step up in terms of performance by means of a remap and (b) I would be able to install an lsd so as to experience improved cornering (and more entertaining!!!) abilities. These modifications in conjunction with the improved comfort/layout/build quality would no doubt turn a magnificent vehicle to an imrpessive performer possibly worthy of an "m" badge.

You see, I think the other way round. I'm sure I would have been quite happy with the new 3.0i, but this 35i came at the right deal with the right spec.

The engine performance standard of the 35i is on par with the Z4M as is! After driving both I also have an opinion on mid range acceleration!

The thing I like about what they have done with the new Z4's now I have been driving mine for a while is that they have designed this car for the roads and not designed a car that only works to it's real potential on a track. :)

After driving this one compared to my last Z4 I think the"Aston GT car" approach rather than the "TVR sports car" approach is really what I was after.

It may not suit you.

Having experience the LSD in the mountains, I can indeed imagine why you would not want to step back from that. I certainly could not.

I am not against the merits of the 35i. All I am saying is that if you combine them with the merits of the "m" then you would have an excellent piece of machinery. Mind you the z4mc is not that good on a track. Its the hooligan aspect of its character which stands out the most.

BTW an lsd is always a valuable add on to any powerful rwd vehicle. I tend to use it for all the wrong reasons...

Must admit the LSD made a big difference to my JCW MINI S in the fact that it reduced torque steer down to almost zero. That was front wheel drive mind.

Just that and a chip would do!!!!

I am certain that this matter will be of interest to a number of new z4 owners in the future.

Fyi, a friend of mine works for a well known car magazine here in Greece. He recently attended the presentation of the x1 and he had a brief discussion with the head of Engine Development dpt in Munich on the prospects of a new z4m. He mentioned the fact that he is acquainted with a z4mc owner (guess who!) who is rather dissapointed by the fact that BMW decided not to develop a new z4m. He winked and he said things change rapidly in this world! Not difficult to comprehend the innuendo! In fact, I recall that back in 2002 bmw said that no e85m would ever exist. Same back in 1996 when the e39 was introduced bmw was adamant that no M5 would be brought into the market. So it is 2011 then!!!!

I actually hope if the M does appear that it is a development of the 6 cylinder twin turbo engine rather than the M3 V8.

Mind you, it may be that the Z4 will get the V8 in M guise when the next development of the M3 engine comes out, just like the last Z4M did.

You can have just as much fun without an LSD! :P

BMW like to use NA in M cars, better balanced (inc high rpm stability) overall although Turbo`s I`m sure have come on a long way. Having said this I didn`t think BMW would use turbocharged petrol engines but times have changed. I`m sure the M3 V8 will be in the New Z4 if there is an M

Personally I don't think so Darren. I think we've seen the end of normally aspirated M's, twin turbos is the way I expect it to go if there is a new Z4M. Not that I would complain if I was wrong. V8 in a coupe version weighing in at circa 150kg lighter than the convertible, now you're talking. Only time will tell.

New M5 will use the x5m motor which is a turbocharged v8...

I expect the same for the new M3. Not sure though about the z4....
