Lowering springs - advice needed!

Hey guys,

I've been thinking of lowering my car myself for a while now. But I'm not quite sure whether I may have some issues with my CSL's...? I have CSL reps (same ET as on an M, front and rear) on a non-M Z4 (I have a 2.2i). Currently just have my oem suspension, so the car looks a little 4x4... Anyway, here is my concern: I'm thinking of fitting FK springs which I have seen on this forum a few times already. Currently the rear wheels stick out just a little (couple of mms).

1) Will I have rubbing issues with FK springs in the rear? :?
2) With the oem shocks (non-M, remember), will I have a bouncy ride? :(

Thanks in advance for the advice guys!

1) Will I have rubbing issues with FK springs in the rear? depends on offset ant tyres you are running
2) With the oem shocks (non-M, remember), will I have a bouncy ride? no

my curent wheels are 19x10 et24 , i have no problems whit the rubbing, my new wheels will be 19x10 et 20 and i'm 100% sure they wont rub either :D

I have fitted Eibach and H&R's...

I have found the H&R's to be better....

As your body height drops, the natural dimensions of the suspension will make the top of the wheel tip in and sit under the arch..

That's great news then :-)

I ordered a set of FK's, now looking fro cheap spring compressors

And Johnny, yes: she REALLY needs a drop urgently !!!! :x
I'm so tired of that 4x4 look, lol...

Good luck with it, I'm half way through fitting the fronts (eibach). Finding it a pain in the arse to be honest, as my compressors don't fit the spring very well with the profile being convex rather than more straight ... struggling to get the new springs on so I abandoned this afternoon after being sun burnt and horse fly bitten to go and do some down hilling on my bike instead :headbang:

in addition to the natural camber, if you still have rubbing issues, a slightly narrower section tire will help there. (stretch ftw!)

might be worth considering going for a set of the sport dampers?

What seems to be the problem Tom??

The springs are an easy job to do, are your spring compressors not compressing the spring enough? The front springs do not need to be compressed much to free them from the top mounts..

But the swap over shouldn't take long at all... I have done that many Z4's now that I can swap all 4 springs in under an hour....lol...

I think they are ET 27, and 9,5 inch wide

Which kind of springs did you fit? Lowered yours by how much then?

My car on coilovers. I've sold fk springs as car wasn't low enough.

Don't want to spam the thread but this may help others anyway. Yes that's the problem, with only 2-3 coils available that aren't sat snug against a mount I just can't seem to get the compression to put the top mount on. Have just had a thought though, maybe the rod in the dampener is pushed in a little at the moment making me have to compress the spring more than it should need. Hmm.

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind too...

It was Marius taking the mick out of mine which made me drop mine so thought i would do the same to you, your wonder why you took so long to do it once its done

The reason I've waited so long was that it's just a pain in Belgium to lower the car. Even if the legal height is no issue, without a document that certifies the car was lowered by a garage including geometry done, it's an MOT failure. But as I don't have the money right now (due to other priorities), I decided to lower it myself for the moment (and swap it back for MOT). :D

Apparantly Machine Monkey is getting quite a lot of rubbing with 9,5 wide, ET27 and 255 tyres and FK springs...
I have the same set-up except for even wider tyres (265) :(

I'm not sure whether I want to start rolling the arches, I don't even know how... Is it doable to add camber as DIY? Also in the front?

Do you get rubbing now when driving hard? Because i did before i lowered my car???

As for the fronts just move the plastic arch liner in front of the bumper and it should be ok.

No rubbing at the moment, even when speeding on small uneven roads... So that might be a good thing :-)
Would have to double-check to be sure though :D

I'll just give it a go and see what happens... 8)
