Lowering a standard suspension

I know this subject has been discussed in depth before but doing a search i dont get any full answers.

I have a 2.2 with standard suspension running on 18's. I would like to lower the car and money is an issue.
Can i replace only the springs without changing the shock absorbers?

If so could you recomend me a lowering kit.

Thanks for the help!

spings can be changed to lower the car without changing the shocks but is not recommended. Also ur shock absorbers life will decrease. If you still want to go down that line, have a look into eibach or H&R. If your in australia, cheapest alternative is king and pedders

In my opinion there is absolutely no problem with just changing the spring.A decent set of springs can be had for under £200, such as SPAX. If you are competant with tools, then do it yourself. The rears are simple the fronts a little more time consuming but not hard.I lowered mine 30mm all round and it took just a coupe of hours.

Remember it gets rid of those nasty BMW springs that snap all too often. :)

I have a completely stock 2.5i with 17” tires. It is already so low that I scrape going over some speed bumps. Maybe you don’t have them in the UK but out here most neighborhoods have them. I also had a heck of a time using my standard jack to put it up on stands. I had to go buy a racing jack $$$ to do the job. Consider this when you decide to lower your Zed. :)

*AL*, that looks ace

Is there any problem with the springs when jacking the wheels or is everything normal (thinking back to problems I heard about years ago, but I think that was related to cutting down springs rather than getting new ones)?

There are no problems at all, it's a 30mm drop at each corner. It makes a big difference to handling and there is no problem with the springs when jacking. Can also get my jack under ok, just don't go any lower than 30mm.No issues with any speed bumps either so just the right 'drop' imo.

how do the shocks feel? do they feel like they did with the stock springs or are they a bit more bouncy now with the lowered springs?

That looks miles better, always thought some Z's look like they sit a little too high ? like yours in the 'before' picture for example.

Mine is 30mm lower. I wouldn't recommend it with the areo kit that have fitted though as it makes speed bumps a real problem :x . But I think it looks so much better

It was done before I bought the car so I've got nothing to judge it against, but even though the car is still on runflats the ride quality is very acceptable. Shocks are standard!

My shocks don't 'feel' any different, just a firmer ride with less body roll.
