Loving my Z4 ! Slight steering problem tho :(

Hi guys

Bought a beautiful Merlot Red 2004 Z4 10 days ago. She's beautiful !! But I have a small problem with steering.
Didnt notice it when buying it but have done since. When I'm driving the wheels feel like they go another way tho I'm holding the steering wheel straight then have to correct it. Only happens now and then. It has run flats on it. I drove 2 before getting this one and now it defo doesn't feel right. Another BMW driver said he had the same problem on an old 318 and he had the wishbone full set replaced and it fixes it. But he did say he had a lot of play in the steering wheel before the wheels actually turned. No play in mine. I've turned the steering full lock left and right and no knocking or noises. Anyone had a similar problem ? I thought it could just be run flats or tracking needs attention but not sure.

Thanks in advance
Mikey

Welcome. Merlot is rare - pics are required! :)

Agree with the above comments re. runflats. Play in the front control arm bushings is a common feature of general wear-and-tear, but this would feel different, as you say. I would consider replacing the runflats immediately, even if they have plenty of tread left. Seems a bit dramatic, but it is probably the most worthwhile modification you can make to the car and one you will probably wish you made earlier if you leave it too long.

Exactly How mine was till I ditched the run flats. Completely transforms the car into what it should be. Pound for pound best bang for the buck I reckon

Mine was the same on run flats I got rid of them within a week of getting the car as they were awful.

Would just changing just the front tyres sort this (I have one front tyre ready to go on that's non run flat)

Don't fancy changing the rears just yet.

I would just bite the bullet and change them all I got 4 Vreds delivered for about £400 which was a good deal and they are great tyres, the sooner you ditch the run flats the more you will enjoy the car :)

If there's reasonable tread on the run flats, you might be able to sell them here or on Pistonheads.

I think I'm going to swap the fronts initially for normal Michelins, see if the twitchy steering wheel stops.
