Lost keys

I lost one of my spares last year and yup you guessed it, lost my other one today.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a replacement pair and roughly what it costs.

In the interim is there anything else I can do without having my key?

I have keyless go.....

I know I have to take my reg docs, licence ID to the garage......

I was quoting from the cost of an X5 key which I thought was more or less the same …. Could be wrong of course.

May seem a stupid question... Is the car locked,I've keyless entry, the key often falls out of my trouser pocket and wedges between the seat & tunnel. If it won't lock your key will be inside the car,ie,it will try to lock but reopen.

As long as they don't need the car they should be able to program one up there and then I would have thought.

If not ask a local car thief to do it for you, they just need a laptop and a blank.

Hahaha...obviously. I have called all the shops I was in today and it's nowhere......I might look around the car park where I was.......

That's a sore one. I lost my a Mini key on the beach in December 2002 and it cost me £110 for a new key so I wouldn't expect the price to be less than this. They need to reprogram the car so that your old keys no longer work with the car.

That may cause an issue with no spare as they will need the car to do this.

Btw where is the car? At home or parked up in a car park? If the latter you may need to inform your insurance company. Someone might find your key, get lucky and find the car and you may find issues with your insurance if the car is taken. Most insurance companies cover lost keys, this may also include transportation to somewhere secure?

You will need to transport car to dealer , about £100 for a key and 30min labour charge £50 to programme.... Take your driver docs and v5 down show and tell , then wait 3 -7 days on key

I thought I had lost my spare the other week as I keep the Z3 and Z4 spare keys in a drawer and somehow the Z4s key fob had fallen out the back, spend a good hour thinking I had moved it somewhere

Knowing how much they cost to replace I always keep the Z4s fob in one of these,

At least then if dropped its less likely to get damaged.

Tim.

Interesting as that looks identical to my X5 key, so why would the Z be so much more ...

The F Series fobs are the new design and likely more expensive to replace.

Always felt my Zeds fob a little cheap and nasty :(

I assume this was for a lost key also? They usually charge to block the other keys which takes time and diagnostic equipment. Not many garages do things for free these days.
