Losing it with this car

Having successfully negotiated past the "Drivers door" open issue... (it basically went away on it's own)... I seem to have developed another one.

The roof warning light appears in the centre info dash thing (what is it called?)... in amber / yellow when I start the car... if I drive a few yards it goes away again... every now and then the same image is shown in red and the windows of the car become inoperable while it's lit. Again it then seems to go away again.

This morning when turning on I had the Red version of the roof light with the red light flashing on the retract button. It went away so I figured I should test the roof actually still retracts etc...

I did and all seemed fine. I then tried to close the roof and after putting the roof section on the rear windscreen section basically seemed to be stuck.. the motor turning but nothing actually happening... I tried opening the roof and this worked. Closing the roof again and all is again ok... but I'm loathed to try opening it again...

I hear the roof is a common issue but is my experience anything that anyone can reassure me over or do i need it in a garage pdq ?

You need this fixed, ignoring the warnings isn’t going to make them go away.

Hello, the roof is fiendishly complicated and can suffer from a myriad of faults..unless you are technically very competent and have access to a decent code reader and at least a decent multimeter you are going to struggle badly..IMHO..

It’s not going to go away so it needs to be fixed ...do not operate the roof anymore..

Find a suitable technician convenient ‘middle earth’...

Others may have more insightful opinions..

For the sake of eliminating the obvious first, have you checked the inner boot tray with the net is securely clipped in place, if not sat firmly in you could get the intermittent red roof light on the roof switch as it thinks the tray isn’t down. Also are you sure there is nothing preventing the lids to close fully...ie, something in the boot, dirt build up etc, on the rubbers as the micro switches need to be fully depressed to allow further operation. Be worth a check round that everything is clean and without obstruction before going down the next route as suggested in the other replies.

Hope you get it fixed without too much expense.
