Looks like the dealer accidently reprogrammed...

Have now got my car back after having the roof pump, electric motor and roof replaced after blocked drainage channels killed the electrics and twisted the roof frame (good job it was under warranty...).
Everything is perfect with the roof now, I'm well pleased to have it back and there's a little bit of sun in the sky so I've been driving with the roof down.

....thing is, now when I put it in reverse, I get a constant electronic 'bonging' sound until I take it out of reverse again.
I went straight back into the dealer, as I noticed it while I was still on their forecourt. The guy checked with his technicians and then told me they had to upgrade the software when they fitted the new roof mechanism :scratchhead: They reckon this sound when in reverse is a feature on all new Z4s and can't be disabled, which I'm sure is absolute crap, as I've recently driven a Z4 that was only registered a few weeks ago and that didn't do it. Not a single Z4 I've been in has done this (though I'm limited to experience of less than 10 Zeds)

Anyway, he's going to call me on Monday when the chief technician is back in the dealership and he'll let me know the score. I told him I definitely want this sound removing as it's an annoyance - I'm driving a sports car not some piece of crap grannymobile that has to tell you when you're reversing. It's a shame, as the dealership has been spot on so far, I can't fault their service, hopefully they won't fall at the last hurdle.

Anyone had any experience of this function??? For me it really spoils the pleasure of the car and is a bit embarrassing to be honest.

I had a 2007 model Z4,3.0SI earlier this year as a courtesy car and it never had the reverse noise you refer to ?......

It's coming from a sounder mounted in the panel above the brake pedal. Drop the panel, remove one of the 2 leads and that's it done (just check as one is the sounder the other for other warnings). Mine had the sound on purchase and I had that sucker off in 10 minutes as it was aweful and made it sound like a delivery lorry reversing

 Thanks for the tip off, I'll check that wire out tomoorow as it's annoying as hell at the moment.

....photos will look just the same as the last roof: black and rooflike :D

My cars done this from new. I found it a bit irritating at first especially when combined with the parking sensor "beep", but I'm used to it now and I suppose I just kinda blank it out. I suppose it's like living next to a railway track, after a while you don't even notice it.

I'd say it'd be worth carrying out the mod on the sounder - imagine the satisfaction of not living near the railway tracks any more!!

Yeh but what if I forget where reverse is, ///M drivers have a handy map built into the gear knob but I just have to use trial and error until I hear the beeping noise!!
