Hi all,

I currently have a Porsche Boxster S 987 with 18K on the clock and was looking to change to a Z4M. Are there any points of note to look out for when buying one of these cars ie common faults etc?
Also I would be very greatful if someone could supply me with some info on servicing cost etc, I don't imagine that they will be more than the Boxster but never say never. Also I would be interested to hear what owners experiences are with the dealers.
Finally, please feel free to drop me an email if anyone is interested in doing a swap or px on my current car.
Thanks Richard

Hi Richard

Welcome. First question - why are you changing, since a Boxster S is neither a particularly slow car, nor any less practical? Still, maybe you just want a change. Are you looking for a Coupe (excellent choice) or a roadster?

There's a buying guide in the stickies but common faults are:

Rear springs cracking
Oxygen sensors failing
Roof motors on roadsters
Diff seals (well a few of us anyway)

But broadly nothing that's a disaster. Certainly there's nothing like the spectre of RMS failure :poke:

Others will be along with servicing info shortly I am sure, but it's all very reasonable for the performance on offer.

Good luck with your search.

Hi James,

Indeed I do just feel like a change. The Porsche is a fantastic car both in terms of practicality and tbh the handling and poise is better than the Z, however it's a very clinical car in that for things to be exciting you have to be going fast enough to go to jail (only found this out at a of Porsche driving day and not in my car).
I used to hillclimb a westfield and I loved the fact that you sat right over the rear axle and that you could steer with the accelerator. I test drove a z4m roadster today and loved the similarity of the driving experience albeit with so comfort thrown in!
As for my poker I took a lot of time finding a good 'un, so no leaks noises etc nor should it have, it's been serviced 3 times and not even reached the first 20k interval. If I'm being upfront it was really my wife who made the call on the poker and although it's a fine car it just doesn't get the heart racing.

Roof motors largely a pre face lift issue .Design changed for revised cars which has all but cured the problem

More details/pics of the porker might tempt a few in

Good shout, the poker is a 987S on a Dec'55 plate, Basalt black, full leather, wind deflector kit, 19" carrera classic rims otherwise a standard car.
