Hi all! Looking to buy a Z4 E86 Coupe ASAP!
Looking about atm and there doesn’t seem to be many to choose from especially auto. Wandered if you guys n gals might know of any tucked away or not advertised that you wouldn’t mind telling me about please. I live in Surrey and more than happy to travel 100miles or so to view the right car.
Appreciate any help
Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum - an E86 is a great choice too.

Depending what mileage you are willing to consider you ought to be able to find one at the lower end of your budget, based on my experience of selling my 90K mile 3.0Si earlier this year.

Good luck finding the right one.

I’ve been looking at cars with mileage from 70k to 140k. Should I be wary of the high mileage cars?? All the ones I like have 100k plus on them

Cheers

I'd probably be more concerned about condition and history than obsessing over mileage.

I sold my last 3.0Si on 90K miles and it was still performing brilliantly.

I also sold a 325i with the same N52 engine last year that was running brilliantly after 139K miles!

Appreciate your help
Just curious, why do some have silver and some black “rocker covers” in the engine bay??
Basically the cover on top of the engine itself, think it’s a rocker cover :?

Hi Marko. I believe the engines with the black cover are the updated and last off the production line. I looked for this engine when I bought my Coupe. I'm toying with buying a boat so may sell mine. I live in Romford if you'd like to meet up and you can see a nice 73k perfect model. Message me if you'd like to have a look. I hope everyone is doing OK in lockdown. :D

Two could be worth following up on ,
Rare colour combo ( dash isn't a major to swap over if not for you ) https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202003088169973?radius=1500&postcode=bb120hr&model=Z4&body-type=Coupe&make=BMW&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&sort=relevance&page=1

Better spec with this one , just ignore the nasty Zunsport meshed up front end  easily sorted for the buyer & i suspect will hamper the sale prospects greatly so could be potential for knocking a lump off https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201912315692263?radius=1500&postcode=bb120hr&model=Z4&transmission=Automatic&body-type=Coupe&make=BMW&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&sort=relevance&page=2

Appreciate your help gents!
Looked at the black one and yes indeed the dash did put me off 💯

Its Monaco blue  probably 500/600 black Si coupes against 40-50 Monaco so a rare car & with fair miles too , the dash is a easy swap for piano black or have the wood finish hydro dipped / painted , its a couple of hundred ££ :(

So looks like I’ve found one!
Off to pick it up tomorrow so I’m a happy boy!
With regards recommending i changing bits n pieces to make it better, is there a page on here I could access?? Vanos/ CDV/ DISA?? No idea what these things are but was reading that some guy had upgraded them or removed??? I don’t no but I’m sure you guys do!
Any help appreciated

Congratulations!

Make sure you drive home the long way! And don't forget we like to see photos.

There are threads about the things you mention if you search in the E85/86 Problems or How Tos, but I'm not sure I'd rush to replace DISA or Vanos unless you are having problems with either of them.

The CDV is a Clutch Delay Valve that BMW fitted in the hydraulic pipe where it connects to the clutch slave cylinder to protect the drive-train from ham-fisted drivers. If you are used to manual cars you'd probably notice better clutch engagement with the CDV removed.

BMW also claim the gearbox oil is "for life" but my gearchange definitely improved after an fluid change. And with a heavier ZHP gear-knob!

But I had both those jobs done the first time I got it serviced as that seemed to make more sense - unless you plan to do it yourself.

Anyway enjoy tomorrow. :driving:
