Looking for the quiet life

I've just bought myself a Z4 35iS M Sport (E89) and now I've got around to really driving it, I find it a bit loud. I suppose 'burbly' is the best word - especially on over-run. Initially I thought it sounded great but I now find it tiring. Is there anything that I can do to quieten it down - even at the expense of some of the performance?

Swap it for my 20i! Straight swap, no cash added. Killer deal for us both, I get a faster engine and you get a quieter engine!

This must be a 1st for this forum an owner who wants to quieten down his standard Z4, usually it's the other way around

Geoff, know what you mean - I had a Chimeara that initially I couldn't get enough of - brilliant sound but after a time it does begin to annoy, especially when you want to be a little inconspicuous.

Have you visited a dealership to see if they have any ideas - or even a few specialists? There may be an exhaust option but you have bought the highest performing E89 and I would have thought that came with a 'sporty' exhaust note. Maybe a 'standard' back box could be fitted?

What about settings? Does your E89 come with options (like the Sport button on the E85?) - have you tried all of them to see if the overrun is quieter on one setting rather than another?

If you can't improve the situation and still can't live with it I'm pretty sure you'll get a buyer!

Hope you get sorted.
