Looking for info on Z4's and paddleshift options

So we think it's just as much fun to drive with the paddles then? I was under the impression originally that the pre facelift Smg box was more responsive to paddle inputs than the post facelift steptronic one.
Does the car have a sport mode?

It was my pre-facelift (2004 /04, 3.0 SE auto), that CJ10jeeper, kindly retro fitted the flappy paddle steering wheel onto recently, for me..
Being honest, - with the paddles now fitted on my Z4, it has changed the overall appeal and performance of the car - into what can only be described as a wolf in sheeps clothing and it's awesome.. It's also, soooo much more responsive and driveable (moreso, in Sport mode), as well as making it more of a drivers car, if you know what I mean..
As others have also said - if you get the chance to drive one, then please do so and enjoy.. Once you get behind the steering wheel, you'll simply want to drive and drive and drive!

I have a 2009 coupe auto with paddle shifts. I have a lot of experience with driving all manner of BMW's both manual and auto. I find the auto a much more enjoyable experience all around, easy when I just want to bimble but also engaging when needed.
The auto box works very well in all situations.
The box when in D is in the normal driving mode but pushed to left places the box into sport, this means it holds each gear longer and speeds up gear changes.
If the sport button is pressed when the gear lever is in D, it changes the power steering and throttle response and also changes the gearbox into sport mode.
It's possible to have normal throttle response but gearbox in sport, so it's easy to tailor the car to your needs at the time.
Another plus mine blips the throttle on downshifts when in manual mode, even though I very rarely use the paddles or gear lever as the box in sport seems always to be in the correct gear.
I was not bothered whether I bought a manual or auto when I got my car but I am so happy that I got an auto and I can't recommend one enough.
