looking for another classic

looking for another classic and have a few options in front of me. Thought I'd ask the community which direction I should take.

unlikely to influence my decision but a bit of idle amusement.

I have sufficient in my 'car fund' for any option plus improvements

Had 2 sprints great cars nothing but agro but can make em better,the other Dolomites not really a classic like the sprint,the vitesse sounds good depending on wot one and the good old faithful herald well wot can one say on that,good old plodder but known to be rot boxes,I get the impression you are a triumph man,I would go for a gt6

Second vote for a GT6 may be a bit more than a dolly but its a mini etype!

Dolomite Sprint for me, when I was growing up my brother had many, well into double figures and I loved him taking me out in them, cool car and if I were to be buying a Dolomite in the future I'd only look for a Sprint 8)

I think that the Vitesse would be the one to go for. More of a classical classic in my eyes.

Triumph Vitesse needing nothing for £6k is what i voted for and it seems many more!
I was offered one of these in my youth and regret not buying iy all the years later.

Have you done a lot of research to get to this short-list?

SO many to choose from in that price range...

The decision lies in the driving experience - and that will be different with each and every example of any of the cars you are considering, of course.

If you can keep your head and not let your heart decide, I would suggest taking the time to look at as many as possible until you find the car you really like.

Then go for it!

Also/PS: Agree with previous posters re GT6 - especially the early ones.

If you want a drop top, the Vitesse. if you don't, the Vitesse with a hard top. I assume you are looking 2.0? I had a 1600 Vitesse a long time ago. Smallest straight 6 ever made, evidently. Loved those twin headlights!

Doli is a bit too 'ordinary' for me.

I had a Sprint when they were current and suffice to say I learnt a lot about spannering! Head gasket (obviously), Rad, water pump, Prop-shaft, gearbox, wheel bearings, all manner of electrics and lots and lots of plastic padding on a car that was only a few years old. A lot of parts are special to the Sprint, hard to find and expensive. I had it 12 months and it was off the road for about 8 of them and literally broke me as a teenager

I've owned lots of Brit and Italian mainstream classics and would say it's far cheaper to spend up-front and get the best available as resto costs generally outweigh car values, but check the work very carefully. Vitesse is nice, simple and well supported

Voted for the Sprint needing a little work - Herald/Shitfire/Vitesse are all too old to be any fun to drive IMHO.

But as an E86 owner I'd go off the OP's list and look for a GT6! :lol: (Well assuming an FHC E-Type may be out of budget)!

I don't want a soft top as I've got the stag and the Z so it has to be a car with a proper roof.

Really don't want a pipe and slippers plodder (the stag is slow enough and thats reasonably quick)

so for me it comes down to the Sprint or the Vitesse and I've had that straight 6 in a TR6. Yes i've done my research and looked a quite a few of each, I'm used to fragile 70's mechanicals - i run a stag! So tomorrow its off to look at a very likely Sprint at the right money - about the 7th or 8th car I've looked at this time round but so far the most promising.

I sold my Stag about 6 years ago, it was honestly a dream to own, work on and get bits for compared to the Sprint. But if it's an itch that has to be scratched then I salute your bravery and look forward to the pics
