Hi, Am on the look out for an E89 6 pot either 2.3 or 3 as budget is under 10k. Colours Black, Blue, Grey Silver. Would like heated seats, folding mirrors and phone bluetooth. Ive only just started looking and so far have seen quite high mileage ones. Cheers all

I'm also in the market for a 30i. Been looking about 2 months now and not many around. Availability seems to have slowed even more lately, too.

More 23i availability, definitely, for a sub £10k budget. I suspect you'll have to settle for a high miles 3l and something that needs tlc for your budget.

My budget is a little higher - not much, and I reckon I'll have to settle for MY 2010 and 75/80k miles - which actually isn't bad for a 12 year old car.

Yes probably 2.3, I dont want to have to do too much tinkering as thats what the Z3 is for!

It can be a bit time consuming but Facebook market place often has some cheaper Z4s, obviously do your HPI checks etc , but you will find something 👍

Thanks, Yes have been looking but seems a minefield on marketplace- I usually buy cars from a garage so am a bit rick adverse!

The following is based upon me being a car nerd and having nothing else better to do. I look at literally hundreds of cars for sale a week.
Prices of E89s across the board do seem artificially high still.
The market in used cars, in general, has dropped significantly over the past few months (for obvious reasons).
There is a definite trend in private sellers wanting the same money as a dealer would ask; something I've never seen before.
The lack of choice is probably down to many sellers waiting until spring when they presume the market will be stronger so should see better money. Many Z4s are second, or third, cars so the urgency to sell may not be as strong at this time of year.
Many E89s have been for sale for months and months so the demand isn't very high, but the prices still are.

I put a random 2013 18i (from Autotrader) the same as mine with similar mileage into WBAC just now. They offered £10,300. A dealer would ask around £14.5k, therefore it should be around £12k privately. It is a private sale asking £17,500! :o
I would want around £11k for mine if I wanted to sell it.

I personally don't think you would get any more peace of mind buying a 12 year old car from a dealer (it's not going to be a BMW dealer at that age) than buying privately and having an AA or RAC inspection done (the AA ones are really good for £300 ish).

Thank you for this information, much appreciated. I have noticed a similarity between trade and private prices when searching. I just dont want to be scammed! Have read a lot about people getting scammed with deposits etc

I just put one Im looking at thats a trade sale at £8695 and on WBAC and it offered £4,800!!

WBAC prices go more askew the older the car…so whilst Pondrew general synopsis is valid what the market buys at is increasingly at odds with WBAC when it comes to older E89s like the 23i and 30i..as well as older 35i..FWIW

On these cars condition and goodies are more important IMHO than mileage or owners..the 23i and 30i generally rumble on forever with little money required, and the E89 chassis generally is wearing very well..

A decent 23i should be well within reach for that money I would think even in the current market, the N52 in either variation is a great engine super reliable with reuglar servicing

I have a 2009 BMW Z4 E89 2.5 23i Auto sDrive Euro 5 2dr (09 - 11) for sale. In immaculate condition it does have a high mileage at 174,500 but it was a one owner vehicle and no expense was spared in looking after it, a full BMW/BMW Specialist service history and ceramic coating applied every two years. Purchased this in July 2022 as a second car but I need to sort a car for the wife and we're only allowed to park two cars here so very reluctantly the Z4 has to go.

The nearside rear spring was replaced to get it through the last MOT so I've since had the offside spring replaced, with the same make of spring. When I had the car checked out at the BMW dealership they commented on how good the condition was considering its age and mileage. The previous owner had it from new and being a pilot it spent most of its mileage on the motorway between Lincoln and Heathrow.

I've always preferred a manual but have been amazed at how good the auto box is, particularly in Sport mode (fantastic !). Although it can be used in manual mode (gear lever and flappy paddles) I've always ran it in auto mode - never though I'd say that.

I paid £5995 for it in July and am considering putting it on Autotrader etc. at £5575.

If you're interested I'll let you have more photo's

There are quite a few around- so can be picky. Not sure if prices will rise as we get to Spring on the cost of living issue will bite harder and keep prices down

You could also talk to me about my 35i on 60,700 mikes ?
Ok, it’s slightly over you budget, but it’s a very well sorted car
