Looking for a z4M

Hello people,my first post so be gentle  . Im in the market for a new car and have been looking at lotus elises and vx220 turbos. Please dont flame me. :fuelfire: Ive done a little bit more digging and those cars seem totally unpratical. I like a few comforts ie a heater that works etc. So my nose has turned by a z4M. From what i can see it has the performance and the comfort etc. Whats the starting price range now for these cars? Ive seen a 06 black z4m with 9 thousand miles on the clock for 24999. I assume as long as these cars have fsh theres nothing much to look out for on them? Any advice is very gratefully recieved. Cheers, Ken

There are at least 2 ex VX220 owners on here so no criticism of Elise derivatives.

With your preference for a few creature comforts I would agree with your new direction. The car you have found sounds like a great deal and I would guess that you are unlikely to find anything significantly cheaper. Are you looking for a R or C?

Where are you in the country - I am sure someone would be happy to take you for a spin. (I am in Warwickshire.)

Good luck in your search.

I live near Nottingham. Ive been looking at e46 m3s as well. How does the z4m compare performance wise to the e46?

ive had elises and an exige for the past 6 years before i come to the dark side ;) i can confirm the Z's are much more practical in every way and just as exciting to drive on the road....on the track is a different ball game with std vs std.

i would personally be looking on the BMW AUC search pages as you have the guarentee of a dealer warrenty. there are lots out there ;)

I swapped my M3 for one, the Z is slightly quicker and handles better (not sure about the roadster)

Thanks for your info so far guys. I bet the z is quicker than the elises and exiges though isnt it? According to parkers the roadster and coupe z have identical performance figures although i could see the coupe being slighty better in the twistys due to it being more rigid? :? What about insurance? Im 28 with over 10 years ncb what you reckon it will cost me?

Not easy to answer. It depends on so many factors.

My VX was way quicker to 100 and on track as well as being slightly better at overtaking however having made the change I would never go back.

Z4M quicker on the Autobahn and is way better at going sideways. Also starts first time every time, has a heater that works, a screen that de-mists and nice warm seats!

Personally I would not even consider an M3 as an option if a 2 seat sports car was what I was really after.

i would have thought the z4M would have destroyed a vx220 with the torque it produces. my mate had a wrx sti impreza and a z3 m left him standing. love bmws.

Really? I guess it depends on the state of tune of your VX. Mine was only a stage-1 remap, but the Z4M feels every inch as quick as the VX was to 100 (i'd even say more so?) and definately much quicker once into 3-figures. I've had a few runs with TonyKL from the VX forum as I still go along to the monthly Windsor meets. I'm sure he's running S3 (with VXR turbo etc) and we were neck and neck from a 30-100+mph drag....

VXT might feel quicker from the torque, and as such, you could catch a Z4M unawares, but if the Z4M is ready and in the right gear, I don't think you'll see anything in it.

OK maybe not 100 but definitely 80mph. I had 3 VX's. A standard Turbo, a VXR and a modded VXT. The last being the best. Way quicker than a standard Exige on or off track.
