Long shot but can you help ??

Hi guys , im helping a friend try to fit an xcarlink to his audi a3 its a 2010 model with the concert 3 stereo. Problem is it simply isnt working. As far as i can see it only requires the replacement of one cable in the back (female 12pin) but it still reads no cd when you change over to cd ? Its not charging the ipod or anything. I know this isnt an audi forum but if anybody has any audio knowledge any help is much appreciated. I have fitted 3 of these before with no problems. Getting frustrated now.
