Long Drives: Time Behind the Z-wheel

My longest would be West Wales to the Pyrenees earlier this year.....963 miles door to door with a Dover-Calais ferry in between. Total time was just under 23 hours with about two hours of that spent on the ferry crossing (inc wait time).

The french bit was just under 700 miles and done overnight (to avoid mobile cameras ) with the roof down ALL THE WAY........

I find the Z4,comfy and easy to drive,long journeys are not a problem,we drove from Cognac ,France, back up to Manchester not sure but i think it was about 800mls,took us 18hrs inc a two hour ferry crossing and getting stuck in traffic jams back in England ,we do 300ml cruises with quite a bit of spirited driving yet it all seems very easy compared to the Z3 we had previously after driving the Z3 i was always knackered.

I did a 180 mile trip back from Manchester to Weston when I pick the car up
Could have easy kept on going for another 180 miles very comfortable.

Do a 2 hour drive every weekend home and then 2 hours back...
Road i use is shocking though...some bad potholes which arent fun at 80mph...in the dark..ruinflats dont help either
But its comfortable, just not when the road is bad

The only issues were my elbows... which were resting on the centre console and the driver door handle for long periods of time. They got a bit sore

BTW - Driving through the Rockies at highway speeds was probably my favourite driving experience ever!

I fold up a jacket or a towel and put it on the armrests to give a bit more cushion ..


If you like the Rockies try the roads through the National Forests in the US, some are incredible twisty's. Check out the Coronado Trail in New Mexico.....

In June this year did 635 miles with only the chunnel crossing and a fuel stop, in one go. Was really comfortable.I got a bit bored with trying to keep the speed down ( to 80 - 85 mph) in France as it ( read I) wanted to cruise at 130 ( mph ,not kph),other than that, was brilliant.Oh yes, roof down of course.
