Hello

I am thinking of driving my car and wife to be to italy for a holiday.
Has any of you driven your zed's this far? by the the way, I live in Swansea south Wales.

Thanks again chaps!

not that far no, but I have done a 1500 round trip from Surrey to Scotland via the lakes and all was good :D

In relative terms it will always be compromised on luggage and comfort compared to almost any big quality saloon. That said no problem at all in long distances. Pack carefully and think of the journey as a key part of the trip.

Incedentally I've drive competition Jeeps to the South of Spain and Artic circle and was brought up in 1960's cars crossing Europe (read plastic seats, no aircon, etc.) so the Zed is sheer heaven to me over any distance.

Snap! Well... at the moment it's just me, but I'm off to Italy in the Z4 in July... going for a friend's wedding in Tuscany. Really looking forward to it. Haven't looked at the route / stops yet, but I'm going over to Switzerland to do the Stalvio pass. Go on. It's about the journey, not the destination :)

Just keep an eye out for the Top Gear speacials on Dave, that'll get you in the mood :driving:

done te same as ganne- big road tripsetc- really enjoyed them all to be honest! car can get a big cramped when doing 2-3hour stints on the M-way where you are less involved in driving but other than that its great. Ive got a 7 hour round trip in mine today so ill let u know tonight how it goes!

Go for it, don't hesitate!

In 2008 Mrs Z head and me went from home (near Southport, oop North) crossed by eurotunnel and first night in Valenciennes, second night at St Louis on Swiss border, third day arrive at Brescia in Italy and stayed a few days, lovely place I'd go there again anytime. Drove back over Gotthard Pass to Lausanne then overnighted at Troyes and Lille before catching train back. We put the top down on the train going to France (they recommend having windows open otherwise) and apart from parking or leaving the car overnight we didnt have the top up again until we were halfway round the M25 two weeks later on our way home. A fantastic holiday and one we hope to repeat in the not too distant future. We don't have fitted luggage but got two medium suitcases in the boot - no problem. Just be prepared to put the stuff that doesnt crease (socks and 'Bill Grundy's') in carrier bags. We did not at anytime need 'luggage' in the front with us except for wine on the way home (bought in Lille on last night). Bon Voyage or is it - buono viaggio ?

IMPORTANT

remember to also pack a spare key for the car ,or take the plastic key with you!!

you do not want to get stuck abroad with a lost key.

My son and I have done several long distance trips in Europe. We always pack a main bag and then two small ones for overnight stops and essentials. I have always found we always take too much.

Never driven that far but i drive down to Le-Mans and have no probs getting camping gear and lugguage for two into my boot i have spent a solid 5 hours behind the wheel more than once and never felt tired or uncomfortable could have gone on for longer
