Evening all,

What is the Logic 7 system? Will it be shown on the VIN decoder sheet, or is it something fitted aftermarket? Are there any visual signs said system is fitted?

Logic 7 is the mid range audio system... https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=121327 refers..

Quite why it was called Logic 7 I don’t know since it’s actually a 8 channel DSP/AMP that drives 11 speakers..here is a pic of the board that resides behind the rear bulkhead on the RHS...

Thanks Pbondar, you’re original write up is excellent (as always).

So the Logic 7 is basically another term for the Professional Speaker system aka item S677 from the options list.

If a cars VIN sheet shows it has the “S7HP Connectivity Package II” alongside the iDrive S607 option....does that indicate it has the full 11 speaker Logic 7 package?

676 is the mid range system with 11 speakers and no access to the onboard DSP on the E89

677 is the high end system with 14 speakers and user access to DSP functions

S7HP and S607 are independent of 676 or 677 although, obviously some people spec'd or bought a car with those combos..

ie you can have iDrive and have the sh1t 6 speaker system..as an example..

Apologies, think I am being a bit dense (no change there my friends would say).

So the S7HP option indicates the car does have has an upgraded system improving on the standard/base, generally accepted, pretty poor speaker system?

the S7HP is to do with USB/Bluetooth connectivity northing to do with the speaker /amp system,,you are looking for 676 or 677 in the VIN decoder..no 676 or 677 (may start with a S or end in A eg S676A) then you have the crummy 6 speaker system.. :thumbsdown:

Blimey, so S7HP was the princely sum of £610 for just some connectivity, bargain (NOT).

So my initial question was related to a car I’ll probably look at next week. The owner is clearly not too knowledgeable on the car he owns (1 year owner with a G29 on order). He’s insistent that it has the “Logic 7 system”, neither S676 or S677 is specified on the VIN sheet,

I don’t think he knows what a VIN spec sheet is, his main rationale seem to be that it apparently the sound is in a different league to a work colleagues car, she apparently has a Z4 with the standard sh1ty system. I guess it’s possible it has an aftermarket system, which would explain why the sound is much better and he is just assuming it’s “Logic 7” because he’s heard that mentioned elsewhere.

I am struggling to work out what to ask him to establish exactly upgrade the car has (if any). Would there be any obvious signs of an aftermarket system for example?

From my simpleton's point of view, you could start by counting the speakers

There could be N where N is a large positive integer variations on this..a discussed elsewhere eve a simple change of the main four speakers would create benefits..after market amp could be located where the normal 676/677 amp goes hidden behind the rear rh rear bulkhead..
