If you do lose the key, you need the number that came with the original set of nuts to order a new one as they are coded. I also had to prove ownership with my ID card etc. Luckily the kid at the parts counter loves Zeds and knows me so no probs. Only mildly embarrassing after only 1000kms...
I have my key in the boot, but i plan to change them to some mcgards in the near future too.
One of my parents neighbours (who live in a self enclosed private estate) had the wheels stolen from his M5 from his driveway while he was sleeping at night.... they even used the bricks from his driveway to prop the car up!
Police said that it was becoming more common; with the thiefs having the locking nut master keys.

Apparently they lift the car stright so it doesnt trip the alarm - The poor chap only bought his car the previous month, so was sure there was some conspiracy with the dealership - however the police said it was the 3rd BMW in the month.... My parents quickly started garaging their BMW after that!
I always kept it (and previous keys) in the trunk , in the box of removed studs.
The story is : NOTE:::the adapter sometimes stays in the lugnut when you pull the socket off. and you have to pick it out with fingertips, if you notice it!!
I was carefully putting all my tools away, wrapping up extension cords for lights etc and I heard a small thunk on the other side of the car, "Hmmm, wonder what that was". didn't see anything when I looked for fallen stuff so continued, overjoyed at how easy it was to install Mud flaps. took the car out for a spin to test the new aerodynamics of the mudflaps
At 4am I woke up thinking "where is that F**ing adapter".
I believe it dropped out of the wheel nut and fell into the small groove in the 19" 296's, just behind the front ribs. It could then have spun out onto the road somewhere....and it snowed overnight. :x

Yes, I understand you gain an extra 5 bhp and the cornering is better with them fitted, not to mention the 3mpg more :wink:
