Like for like hire car

Ok my car got driven/slid into when parked, anyway heard it happen so went down and the guy was fine about it, couldnt exactly denny it when his car is slammed into mine.

I got his insurance details, called Elephant my insurer who put me on to Albany legal people to take care of.

Anyway Booked in the bodyshop for early Jan now, on the phone to insurance they said I was entitled to a 'like for like' hire car while mine is in. Then later on in the convo asked if I would need a like for like, I said yes, they asked why?

What could I say 'yes I need a fast (reasonably) converitble for this lovely snowy weather we are having. I just said
well I paid for this car and this much to insure it and you said like for like.... she said she would put down work reasons.

Anyway what joke do you reckon they will fix me up with?? I will not accept a MX-5 or such, far too small for me.

I bet that is what they offer though? Anyone had a 'like for like'?

Mate hit a deer last week in his new shape XKR Coupe... trashed the front and antler through the bonnet. Admiral have been very good so far - he got 2 quotes himself from places he knows and Admiral agreed to the quote from the local Bentley dealer. Well, they also sell Zonda, Spyker, Koenigsegg etc... sounds promising! Caught up with him today... looks like they're giving him a Fiesta :o

Certainly not like for like - well, depends on your view of XKRs! Although given he knows he's getting it done somewhere decent he won't complain!

Always a good reason to go with an Accident Management company. They WILL get you a like-for-like car, as that's their job, and they will then bill back to the 3rd party. Only works in non-fault accidents of course.

Had someone scuff my rear bumper in the summer. Went through Accident Exchange, and had an E92 M3 for 4 weeks whilst my car was in the bodyshop. :) Certainly made it much easier to reject the car first time it was brought back too, since I wasn't happy with the quality of the work. Driving around in the new M3 was hardly a chore!
 
I thought "like for like" actually referred to getting a replacement car with the same engine capacity....? :? :roll:
 
They have a fleet of cars which are split into groups, you will get something out of a group they deen to be comparible to yours.
How these groups are worked out is anyones business but when i was offered a like for like after my focus ST was written off a new Jag x-type turned up, i would like to meet the person who put those 2 cars in the same bracket?
 
I got a brand new Boxster S Sports Edition for 2 weeks when mine was off the road.

Lovely car.

Hmm.. I might have to get someone to slide in to my car in that case!
 
I had a 2009 320d 5 door auto for a month after someone drove into me in July! I almost had a 2.0 Z4 Roadster, but even though the hire company said i could have it the insurance company said i couldn't because of my age, even though i have a 3.0 Z4 insured in my own name!! :?
 
I used an accident management company called swift (i think), recommended to me by Williams BMW were i took the car to be repaired after some dillweed reversed into it after owning the car a week ! i was pi$$ed off to say the least. They gave me a brand new (with 200 miles on the clock) a 3.0si roadster, certainly made things a bit more pleasent.

I spoke to the guy who dropped the car off for me, and he told me they charge the other guys insurers £299.00+vat per day for car hire, i had the car just over a week. BMW only charged £1850.00 all in for a replacement door, fitting, paint etc etc...the hire car cost more than the actual repair. Extorshionate if you ask me, however it was his fault so no sympathy really.

Same here, my Z4 was being repaired by Sytner BMW and the referred me to Swift for the hire car. They were really good. The bill was 3.5k, on top of 11k repairs on the Z4, bet the other guy's insurance company loved that :lol:
 
Don't get me wrong - I love the like for like hire car - I've had it before - BUT, its got to go straight onto our premiums in the long run.

Couldnt agree more, anything car insurance related is a rip off.
 
Be VERY careful with Albany Assistance, looks like I might have to go to court because the third party won't pay for 10 days worth of my 635d hire car from April 2008!
 
Ouch! Albany gave me a diesel Golf as 'like for like' for my TT after someone drove into me...I had it for a month so I hope they don't decide to chase me for the bill!
