Lifting the carpet in drivers footwell - anybody done it?

While repairing the yaw rate sensor problem on my 2003 Z4 I've discovered that underneath the carpet sections on the drivers side were soaked. I've managed to dry out the rear section of the carpet using a wet fax, hair dryer and cat litter, but the front section is more difficult. I've cleaned out drain holes and repaired the door membrane, so cause is sorted.

There appears to be a solid block under where the drivers feet go which stops me folding it back and I guess I'm going to have to lift it.

Looking at it, I need to remove the plastic trim where the rear boot switch and bonnet catch are, and the accelerator pedal support at the very least. I've searched but can't find and advice for removing these parts or lifting the drivers side footwell carpet, so hoping somebody has any pointers or better still a bookmarked "how to" remove carpets from a Z4? I only intend to do the drivers side, unless it's easy to pull out the entire carpet. Any advice appreciated, thanks.
