LED bulbs (domestic)

Afraid I just can't get on with LED and halogen bulbs. We did try them but I disliked the light harshness we binned them all and bulk bought a load of rough service traditional bulbs which you can still get, I just find the colour warmth so much better with good old fashioned traditional bulbs.

Just pick led's with a suitable colour spectrum. These days some are really close to traditional filament bulbs.TitanTim said:
I too dislike the glare of 6k leds and have warm white in reception rooms and bedrooms whiter in office, kitchen, etc.

That used to be the case Tim but as well as bright white you can buy warm led's and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference until you saw your leccy bill. There's so much choice with some led's deliberately designed to perform exactly as traditional bulbs even down to the "filament" constructions. Take a wander through the Screwfix catalogue and be amazed! BTW I am not affiliated to Screwfix or any other similar store. :lol:

When the old traditional bulbs were phased out I bought a job lot of EverReady bulbs which I noticed had Made in China printed on the boxes
They would light up and glow to around a 1000 degrees and on occasion would literally explode at the base with the bulb part dropping to the floor, we have a three bulb light overhanging the bed and one of the bulbs exploded, dropped onto the duvet and burnt a hole in it at the same time fusing all the lights. Apart from that they've been pretty good, its just the extreme heat they give out so we turn the central heating down to compensate

Just go for the Sale of Goods/Consumer Rights Act and straight to the top.
I used to buy these for B&Q and have a house full of our own brand.
I have 47 LED bulbs in my home of various types and only had to change 1 GU10 in the last 5 years.
They will suffer a shortening of life if enclosed, cycled excessively or used on a dimmer (even when designed to be dimmable).
